We use debit cards and cash. I only use cash. I even withdraw money just to spend it 100m away from the cash machine.

I don't like debit cards because if someone steals your card info and spends your money, that money is immediately gone, whereas if your credit card info is stolen, the money never leaves your bank account, you report the fraudulent charges, and just get a new card.
>>
I only use a debit card, credit cards are for the very rich and the very retarded.
>>
almost no one has a credit card here, it's all about them debit's which makes sense.

why would you waste money you don't have, literally the reason most USA are in debt.

>>53113383
First of all you need a PIN and shit to use your debit card, and most banks will do give back when proven it's stolen.

maby in USA it's fucked up, but not in europe.
>>
aren't credit card rates absurd?
like 20+%?
>>
>>53113346
this

most people use cash unless it's a big transaction or they are doing weekly shopping
>>
>>53112457
Debit cards are significantly more common
>>
How does a young person get good credit?

I have a credit and put my phone and gym bill on it and pay it off monthly

Does this get me good credit?
>>
>>53113490
this t͏bh
>>
>>53113383
Banks will just give you your money back if it was stolen. I knew a girl who lost $4,000 and got it back the next day.
>>
We have a well established Electronic Point of Sale system, but the credit card networks are gaining ground because of internet commerce and changing their vendor pricing to encourage small transactions. Visa and Mastercard have absolutely shat all over Amex, who were slow to stop fucking over merchants. As far as I'm aware most plastic in Australia is linked to bank deposits.
>>
>>53113383

These are the sort of people that mean the US wont be getting paywave for another decade
>>
>>53113383
too bad ur wrong m8
>>
Everyone uses it.
Pretty convenient, and I pay it off frequently so nothing goes wrong for me.
>>

>Pretty convenient, and I pay it off frequently so nothing goes wrong for me.

aren't you still facing interest rates?
that's the part I don't get why would you accept to pay a premium on everything?!
>>
>>53113533
If you pay it off by a certain time they aren't
>>
I only got one because I was told I need to build a credit history if I ever want to own a home or a boat.
>>
>>53113564
It will help. Just make sure you keep paying them on time
>>
>>53113678
Usually it's a 0% rate if you pay it off before your next statement. You literally get free stuff/discounts (cash back) for using your credit card smartly
>>
>>53113694
over here you just need a deposit and a job

>>53113846
"free"
>>
Most people use debit cards
>>
>>53113678
No unless you miss payments or something. $0 annual fee for students, $40 for non-students. Pretty awesome dude, and some places charge a dollar or something for using debit card, so credit's better.
>>
>>53113520
>>53113580
PINs can be stolen as well. For people who live paycheck to paycheck, waiting for a bank to give you your money back could be quite bad as well.
>>
>>53114153
Also maybe related: All of my online American friends have phone plans where they don't actually own the phone, whereas all of my irl Australian friends own their phones outright and use prepaid. Do Americans rent furniture too?
>>
>>53114247
It's a lot more manageable to pay off an $800 smartphone over several months rather than paying it in full for many people.

Kek poor people do
>>
>>53113533
Pay it off before interest hits at the end of the month. This also makes your credit score better.
>>
most people use money or debit cards 2bh. Credit cards are for the desperate 2bh
>>
>>53113608
We have contactless payment here too, you stupid little island çuck

I just tap my phone to pay for shit.
>>
I use debit cards or cash. Credit card only when traveling because it's cheaper to withdraw cash.
>>
>>53113383
That's exactly why debit cards come with chips and PIN numbers nowadays.
>>
I've been told I'm weird for only using a debit card

also, why do americans drive such big stupid cars?
>>
>>53115444
>implying that chip and pin means perfect security

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2015/10/how-a-criminal-ring-defeated-the-secure-chip-and-pin-credit-cards/
>>
>>53115686
Because they're the only ones that fit their big stupid selves inside.
>>
>>53115686

A lot of people use debit too. I don't know which people use more though.
>>
>>53115686
>also, why do americans drive such big stupid cars?

speak for yourself, you stupid redneck
>>
Daily stuff, debit card

Bigger purchases, I use my credit card and pay it off immediately because it gives me 5% cash back on most purchases

>>53113564
Not sure how it works in Canada, but if it is similar to the US...

...You wait. Unless you have a lot of income, it will take years for your credit to become really well established.

Ask for credit limit increases every year or so if you can do so without having your credit record pulled. Definitely do so if your income increases significantly (>20%).

Make sure you don't pay more than 25% of your income on rent.

Never, ever miss a payment.

Lease a car if you absolutely have to (this builds credit) but if you can, purchase a gently used car with a low-interest auto loan (credit unions are good for this). You can get a decent car for a few thousand dollars, and payments will be anywhere between 100-200 USD/month.
>>
>>53112457
No. Thank God it is not.

They have them in places catering to tourists, but for Belgians it is cash or in shops bank card.

Citibank once tried to evande Belgian law and offer loans and credit cards to 18 year old kids and people on welfare, luckily that loophole got closed fast.

Are using checks a norm in your country?

Japan
No
>>
>>53112457
Using giro transactions to pay my bills. Paid my bills on the Internets since the 1990s. I wish I could do it when buying things from abroad, but americans hate security.

Most people use credit cards when shopping, it's simply more convenient. People with big wads of cash are not rarely laundering money.
>>
99% debit card.
>>
>>53112457
No, debit card is the norm, i only use my credit card when i'm abroad
