Tell me about New York. Are there even any cementaries in this city? Surely it doesn't look like there is anything else than Central Park and Buildings, looking at it from above....

Where do you burry your dead, New Yorkers?
>>
New York city is more than Manhattan
>>
>random brown/orange spots everywhere
>>
>>51124101
Not really.
>>
>>51124050
They get buried outside the city.

My grandpa was a New York Cityite and when he died, he was buried in a cemetary outside NYC on the mainland.
>>
>>51124115
those look like baseball fields, kinda gross sport desu
>>
>>51124050

Also: how is it to live there? Is there dust and shit everywhere and you can barely stand it or do you not feel that there is so little green around?
>>
>>51124050
>huge part of central park is filled with softball fields
>softball fields

*human garbage
>>
>>51124439

Well, that's what you get if there's a bunch of people who really, really want to live in the same place and who are willing to pay for that.

We have quite a few cemeteries actually. Most of them are full though.

I am talking about dust and sand. Look how much concrete, steel and glass is there and how little green areas. I imagine that there are cloads of sand flying around.

You know we have a fuckton of trees, right? You just can't see them on satellite because the buildings are so tall. Pic related is a street in the OP.

Most of the cemeteries are in the outer boroughs (Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten island). There are no real cemeteries in Manhattan aside from a few colonial-era plots hidden behind buildings in fenced-off courtyards. Every now and then city workers unearth forgotten tombs while digging to replace pipes or whatever.

The largest concentration of cemeteries are in Queens, to the point where some neighborhoods have more dead people than there are alive. Pic related, it's Calvary cemetery in Long Island City. It's somewhat famous and has been in a lot of movies and TV shows (The Godfather and Sopranos, for one). If you're rich you can buy a plot in Greenwood cemetery in Brooklyn, absolutely beautiful place with incredible mausoleums and the like. Some of them are designed to look like Egyptian temples and others have Gothic spires and motifs.

t. grew up in Queens right across the street from a graveyard
>>
>>51124838

Yea, it's green as fuck there.

Either way: what's with the street naming? How come that they have so generic names like 1st street, 63th street or whatever?
>>
>>51125072

Holy shit. That's a huge ass cementary.
>>
>>51125108
the numbers increase the farther north you go. Better for finding out where you are than memorizing every street name and which streets run adjacent to it and so on
>>
>>51125108
Back in the 1800's, we developed a grid plan, but at that point, the city was only developed up to what is now 14th Street, so all the streets laid as part of the grid are # Street. 1st Street is actually about two miles away from the southern tip of Manhattan. That's why Lexington Avenue and Madison Avenue aren't numbers, because they weren't part of the original grid layout.

How often do you move out from your city? It looks like a separate country in a country, it's so big...

Who gives a fuck about graveyards bro?
Should knock them down to build more office towers. The economy will stagnate if square meterage doesn't increase.

Central Park was designed and created in the 1850's at the time NYC wasn't nearly as developed that far north as it is nowadays.

Fun fact: The City Council spend more than $50M/year to maintain the park.
>>
>>51131058
Yes, you purchase a plot of land within the cemetery and a headstone.
However there are government agencies to help poor people make funeral arrangements like a burial plot and/or cremation.
You can't bury/burn people for free.
>>
>>51129713
Seneca Village. It was where a bunch of black people and some other immigrants lived before being eventually pushed into Harlem, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.
>>
>>51129713
The original grid-plan of New York [which was only Manhattan island back then] had no park. It was supposed to be full of buildings from the bottom to the to the top.

The grid grew from the glans-like portion of the penis-shaped island to the lower shaft. Some perceptive minds must have realised how stuffy New York would be chock-full of buildings, and a park was added to the plan.

There were only a couple dozen homes on that part of the island and they were all poor fucks so they just relocated those folk and tore down the homes, leveled the landscape and made it a park.

Central Park [originally Linkin Park] was a much needed relief for the city. The timeless words 'Crawling in my skin, these wounds they shant heal. This park offers relief, feeling what is real.' are written at the primary entrance of the park.

I chuckled and OP we have plenty of green space, the buildings just block them.
>>
They just get buried outside the city, the already established cemetaries in Long Island and Westchester (county directly north of NYC) are already very nice and acessible.

>>51129855
Yes if you work in the city and don't want to commute, are single, or is just a normal person that can't afford a house yet. Hipsters are faggots that should go burn in hell for tipping the city's vote towards democrats during elections.

I live just outside of the city but I spend most of my day there for reference
>>
>>51132127
Normal people who can't afford a house yet can't afford a decent apartment in NYC either.

A room costs at least 1k in Manhattan. A 1-room apartment, 2k.

The only tolerable prices are in the suburban neighborhoods of the Bronx and Staten Island (which is de facto NJ)
>>
>>51124050
there's a cemetery on the outskirts of Brooklyn, and under an overpass
>>
>>51124370

New York City actually isn't that bad. There are trees planted everywhere and a number of small, pleasant parks scattered around Midtown and Lower Manhattan. There's plenty of green space in Brooklyn, Queens, and State Island.
