Is this true?

Why has there not been an EU commission to investigate the best way to do this and then forced it Europe-wide?

I'm fine with animated movies dubbed as long as the dub is good. There are in fact a few movies like Ice Age and Lion King that I prefer in Finnish. Lion King maybe because I watched it dubbed when I was a child. I saw Ice Age in English first, but after seeing it dubbed in Finnish, I decided it was better because of dubs so good that the voice actors actually exceed the original.

Live action however should never be dubbed. And Simpsons, Futurama or South Park. Finland has never dubbed those though.

Most TV channels have not this feature, and the majority of TV-viewers here are the elder, so they cannot use roughly 99% of their luminous box technology.

If you read subtitles while listening to the English you will slowly learn more English.

I remember when I was a kid and planet of the apes taught me the word "destiny" for the first time. Good times.

Also it's been said already but subtitles isn't distracting at all. Dubs are even more distracting to me because of the mismatch with their lips.

>sinterklaasfeest is racistisch

My opinion is that everything should be dubbed.
Why?
1. To protect your own language. (countries where everything is being dubbed are the most Americanised in Europe, for example, Scandinavian countries).
2. English proficiency only serves to strengthen the USA's cultural and economic grip over Europe. European countries should not be mere provinces of the "American empire".

The EU is a scam and a lackey of the USA. And it's scandalous how they try to condition us into becoming Anglos.

>>30218747
I do, usually. But I don't see a reason why it is somehow bad to enjoy a movie with dubs as long as they're well done. Some people just want to sit back and relax while watching TV and don't care about improving their skills in English or whatever other language all the time.
>>
>>30219100
The most important dubbing schools stem in 1950, when WWII had ended for six years(*). In 1980, Mediaset held rights for miriads of cartoons, and then it was the great era of dubbing.

Translation is often wrong, sometimes even intentionally wrong.
Random censorship.
Dubbers are chosen not on the basis of whether they fit the original voice or not but on how much they have to be payed/how many connections they have/whatever.
And the quality from movies to tv series drops dramatically.

The world was economically more interdependent and interconnected in 1920 than it is now (at least the Western world was). Globalisation is nothing new. The only difference with now and back then is that one country is disproportionatelly powerful, i.e. the USA.
Instead of resisting this and trying to gain some of our sovereignty back, no, postmodern Europeans prefer to just submit.

In 30 years, the only languages that you will hear in Sweden are English and Arabic. The only media that Swedes will consume will be American, North African and Middle Eastern.
Do I hate Anglo-Americans and Muslim cultures? No. But that doesn't mean that I will encourage it at the expense of my own culture.

People read need to get some historical perspective and stop being so naive.

If I said "laziness", they couldn't use "pigrizia" if I have said it too slow or too fast. They have to adapt velocities.

For censorship, blame Mediaset, not every single dubbing schools. Some independent ones are trying to redub old cartoons without castrating their value.

AUB.

>2. English proficiency only serves to strengthen the USA's cultural and economic grip over Europe. European countries should not be mere provinces of the "American empire".

It's not like reading subtitles is tiring or mentally demanding, nobody said that. It's just that dubbed TV is more convenient - you don't have to look at the screen all the time, you can talk to friends and still understand what's going on and you can even close your eyes and relax while just enjoying the audio. There is very little reason to choose subtitles over dubs as long as the dub is of a good quality.

People from every Home Nation are well-considered, including Welshmen. The "sheep shagger" stuff is just banter. Every nation has their own stereotypes but it isn't taken seriously, like Scots are fat heroin-addicts, Northern Irish are violent crazies and English are blamed for everything - specifically, Southern English are soft snobs, Northern English are poor sub-humans. Welsh are sheep shaggers.

Eh that's roughly it, I'm sure other Brits will disagree but it's approximately correct.

>The USA has by far the largest economy

>The USA has a very strong clout and a huge media empire.

>>

>>The same happens with people from Asia, Africa and South America

>assuming things without really knowing how things are in reality

Most people from those places never venture in the Anglo side of the internet. You mostly encounter Scandinavians, people from Anglo countries and to a lesser degree people from Latin America (Latin America's hispanic population is huge, so it's only a very small minority, and even then they tend to be most of their times on the Spanish side of the internet)
China's own video website is ridiculously popular.
Spanish-language internet is huge and many Spanish tweets are even trending worldwide on Twitter.
French internet is huge too (mostly people from France, North Africa and Quebec), with their own websites and even memes.
On Youtube, Russian, Spanish, French and Japanese are well represented and have huge communities.
etcetc

If you want, I can give you a trillion concrete examples of the the vinbrancy of French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Arabic and Mandarin internet. And even Dutch is growing Youtube (more and more Dutch-language Youtube channels targeted at teens and young adolescents).

In fact, it's YOU who needs to leave his Anglo bubble.
>>
>>30221330
>feel like you live in a foreign country where social and cultural change is driven by Anglo-American trends and hypes.
Most countries already are, to some extent, driven by American culture. The language used to drive this is irrelevant.
The fact that an inhabitant of what is basically a non-country is even raising these points is simply comical. Does Belgium offer anything that isn't a simple bastardisation of French or Netherlandic culture?
>>

Scandinavië is extreem "progressief".

>Scandinavië is extreem "progressief".

Not really

I only support dubbing in cartoons like Disney once used to make, watched Disney channel the other day and to my horror that's so raven was dubbed by the worst possible voice actors ever.

My ears was bleeding and I'll even bet ravens Norwegian voice wasn't even black.

To people here in Europe who rather watch dubbed movies than learning English or read subtitles if the language isn't that important to learn, should all be purged.
>>
I only watch finnish movies because reading is for faggots
>>
>>30218982
Jokes on you, I watch British series and movie.
And all the actors in Hollywood are British anyways.
>>
To all naysayers in this thread.
You're not standing up to globalisation or america, you're just fucking slow and stupid for not being able to read subtitles without losing your concentration on what's happening in the movie.

Do you guys also dub music and songs when it's not in your language? Or are you all so superficial that you don't even care about what's being sung, and only care if it's catchy or not?

Get over yourselves.

>implying Americans watch foreign movies
>>
>>30223543
Lel your talking about communities on the internet meant for one single country like the Chinese and Japanese. They were never meant to be international like 4chan or reddit for example, whos main language is english
>>
>>30230050
But music is not a plot-driven medium. I mean lyrics are of course important but the comparison is absurd
>>
>>30218539
The only stuff we ever dub are Chinese cartoons like DBZ and shit. Actual movies are almost exclusively subbed.
>>
>>30230722
Musicals are plotdriven and god forbid if those songs are dubbed
>>
Why do they do separate dubs for Latino and Castillian Spanish? They're mutually intelligible. It seems like a waste of resources.
>>
>>30230722

>actually thinking movies are plot-driven

Holy shit. How pleb can you get?
>>
>>30219450
>look at someone when they're talking
>see their face
>their mouth is on their face
>see their mouth
>see the lips moving out of sync with the words

It's like watching a video that has audio delay, it's fucking annoying.

are you guys in elementary school or what?

Musicals =/= music
Also, yes, musicals are being "dubbed"; most popular musicals have been translated in various other languages.
>>
>the average portuguese watching a dubbed movie
It just doesn't hapen
>>

Watching a dub of any language is fucking weird because it always, literally always, creates a disconnect between what's happening on screen and what the people are saying.

Dubs are fucking trash and only lazy people prefer them, which is why you've got Frenchies, waffle Frenchies, and Italians doing the most bitching about subtitles in this thread.
>>
>>30220445
Correct, there is literally nothing wrong with that. There are many different English accents, and normal people don't flip their shit when two people who don't sound the same are having a conversation.
>>
>dubbing
We've got so few vice actors I can usually name most of them which spoils movie for me.
Also translator usually do shitty job, I prefer to stick to the original sound and don't look at subs.
>>
>>30217986
at least the rest of europe is retard in one aspect in which we aren't

seriously, subtitles is God. stop dubbing you fucking shitheads
>>
I don't get how people can actually watch shitty out of sync dubs
>>
>>30218872
Does anyone have screencaps of Thomas?

Muh dialect >>>>>> your dialect.
>>
>>30236139

But it would be like British people dubbing over American movies with British voice actors. It's absurd.
>>
>>30236515
They did redub Luke in the Professor Layton games with a British actress, though.

Also, aren't there a lot of shows that are simply adaptions of British shows?
That also seems kinda absurd.
>>
>>30236880

Yeah, it is absurd.
>>
>>30236515
u wot

Every side makes their own dub at the same time but separately, with separate translators and technicians.

Obviously Spanish, Mexican and Argie movies aren't dubbed, that would be retarded.

Also unlike brits and americans we aren't used to each other dialects so we are really autistic about it.
