Was Lucian Freud the best painter of 100 years?
What's going on with it? What's all these streaks on her? Who is it anyway? Brockhurst is better

What are his qualities then?

>Lucian Freud
his works' faces look like crumpled aluminium foils no thanks.
>>3123928
No. Was he the best portraitist of the last 100 years? maybe.
>>3123928
Wyeth is.
>>3124139
Though thinking about it a little bit more
>>3123928
Gerhard Richter obviously

N.C., Andrew, or Jamie? You could make the argument that Andrew was too glum -- he's like Bob Dylan without rhyme or melody. I think Jamie found a way to combine N.C.'s imagination with his father's realist bent.

>Andrew

Or Helnwein, though his range of work is not as big as richters
Throw in a Daphne Todd

No. Many of his paintings have a cartoonish quality and his technical ability was not great. For a painter with better draftsmanship consider Stanley Spencer who presaged Freud's style and was a greater painter. Freud had his psychological schtick though.

Freud's technical ability isn't disputable, take into account his views from his window and his later paintings. Lucian and Frank as a double are a riot and Stanley have quite as many laughs. As a stand alone painter Stan is top notch.

What Stanley was waay behind Freud wew

>Freud's technical ability isn't disputable
Freud painted this in 2002 and proportionally speaking it's all wrong. Maybe the shape of the tip of the nose is only thing that jumps out as correct.
If you look at earlier work it's just as bad, eyes skewed and all over the place, no sense of perspective, etc...
