How to get good fast (hear me out)

I know your stance on this and I know the stance of a lot of good artists on this - it's better to take your time etc. I KNOW THIS.

But I live with my very shitty family that makes my life hell. I can't move out because I can't sustain myself from a minimal wage job (I live in Eastern Europe). It's just not going to happen. I like to draw and I could make decent money assuming I can draw. I would get those sweet dollars... you know the drill. A lot easier to get going than work in my country and be unable to pay for myself. I am not exaggerating, it's really that bad.

I can set up my schedule in a way that my family doesn't intervene, I can draw for at least 4 hours but ideally it would be 8. I can force myself to do that because I am tired of my life, I have my dreams, ideals and I can't be undermined all the time by some fucking losers whom I will never see again if I move out.

I know that getting good fast sounds like a meme but I beg you to share anything that can make me work in 2 years from now at least. It's still an eternity in my case but I have to start somewhere. I need the most streamlined guides or info so I can realistically work and provide for myself. Don't bother telling me to find a job, because I was clear on that and I am pretty sure you would think like me if you were in my situation. You would have killed yourselves by now. I was raised in that shithole, I experienced it all and that shaped my insecurities and other bad thoughts. If I am to become a functioning human being, I have to move out and start again.

If there were some secret technique to getting good super fast we would all be great artists by now.

It's more about working harder than others, I know learning to draw takes time. Algenpfleger got good fast so it's not impossible.

Just draw furry and weird fetish shit, you don't need to be particulalry good to make money.
>>
>>3122920
Get out of here first. This board is full of misleading advice of failed artists.
Just copy life, photos and other artists as exactly as possible and always try to understand why each tiny detail looks the way it does.
Drawing from imagination is a meme. You learn to draw without reference eventually if you don't just copy blindly. Just learn about the underlying structure while you continue copying and look for anatomical landmarks and start replacing shapes with forms. Always measure as much as possible and aim for accuracy over volume. Repeating mistakes is just gonna imprint bad habits, just like when learning to play an instrument.

the bottom line is being good requires having strong fundamentals. So if you want to get good fast I would recommend you not beat around the bush with your fundamentals.

Also, doing master studies (making replicas of great artists work) will help you make gains fast. Try your hardest to make it as accurate as possible to the original. Do lots of these whenever you can.

Also stay in your lane. If you want to be a painter then do all your studies with paint. If you want to be good at drawing then do all your studies with pencil. If you want to do digital then stick with digital. If you're a noob and you keep jumping criss cross over different mediums you will confuse yourself and your work will suffer.

Lastly ask for critiques often and listen. And I mean really listen. The natural response is to not to want to have anyone criticise your work or telling you that your work sucks but if they tell you why your work sucks you are one step closer to knowing how to make it better.

This is if you want to "get good"

If you want to make money just do furry porn or fan-art porn. Never say no no matter how weird or retarded the request. In fact the weirder/more obscure the fetish the better because then you can charge more for it.
>>
>>3122952
It's the same thing if you want to get good or just make money. If you want to make money with porn you just need to copy more porn artists to learn their workflow, so you get the tricks of getting stuff done quick while still looking polished.

This is unironically good advice for a bait thread.

Get TWO mentors who you Skype with 1-3 times a week for critique and direction.

Good mentors cost $$ though... What's your current level? How much can you spend a week? Are you on a competitive level for a site like 99designs? Pic related, that level is good enough to earn ~$1200 a month.

And start job hunting NOW already.
$15 gig? Well, you're drawing = you're learning and you got some bucks too.

I'm pretty sure getting good fast isn't a meme. Sinix became pretty good in like a year. I don't know for sure but I think he took a whole year off to dedicate to art. You just have to know what you need to improve on. So, you'll obviously have to go hard in the paint on the fundamentals and I'd recommend watching all the YouTube artists- sycra (especially is tutorials and older vids), Sinix, Ahmed Aldoori, and Brushboost and RossDraws for some inspiration if you need it. I'd also recommend coming back here or wherever you can get critiques so you can get improve your weak spots even quicker.

If you actually spend an insane amount of time doing art with all your focus, I can guarantee that you can get good in two years. But, I can't guarantee that you won't get burned out and hate life. Good luck anon!

Find an artist that's really good that you like. Study the FUCK out of their work and try to make your work like theirs. Not just the "style" but the actual essence of what makes their work good. When you're away from your computer, or your sketchbook, pull up as much of their work as you can on your phone and just study it. Keep studying the fundamentals so you can keep up with their work. Throw in some old master paintings, too. That never hurts. Eventually, your brain will get acclimated to that level of work, and that's what you'll imagine when you imagine your own work, and the rest is just mileage until you get to the level you want to be at. Study things you struggle with, don't just study random things without any direction. That'll do nothing for you. You have to internalize why things look the way they do. Think of planes, practice your values, think about edges. Don't worry about style unless it already comes naturally to you.

Image related is my personal progression in the last year. Which probably doesn't look that drastic. I could have done a lot better if I had worked harder. Left is mid-2016, right is a WIP I'm currently working on.

algenfpledger practiced 12 hours a day and in 2 years he was already taking $300 commissions. In 4 years he was working freelance. You can do it, if and only you put in the constant unwavering relentless hard work.

This, once you have good enough of a muscle memory, the fundamentals flow way easier since you're already accustomed to them.

draw what inspires you. Then take that subject and find other artists who have done the same kind of work. Do a study of one of their pieces.
This is a piece I did for holiday cards in 2014. I like Bouguereau's paintings "A song of angles", but I used bees. Fun times

Agree with these anons. The other thing to keep in mind are "systems." If you look around there are a lot of systems to help you keep keep things like proportions in mind. Find one that works for you will help out a lot.

Any object you see in the world (and that you can imagine) can fit inside a cube. So focus in cubes, draw them as transparent boxes, this is key to understand how to create the illusion of "3D". You see, a cube is form of 3 sets of parallel lines, to draw it in perspective you simply take one (or all of them) set of those lines and make them converge to a point, just search 1-point perspective and you'll see what I mean.

Perspective is a complex subject, but the base is simple, as objects move away from us they appear to diminish in size (even though they don't), and when some thing is closer to you you can notice more details about it. When seeing an object in perspective, take for example a human, you'll notice what is called "distortion", like when you see someone from a bottom point of view their head would appear smaller than it really is. Search for foreshortening.

Anything can be break down to simple forms. If you ever see something and feel overwhelmed about its complexity, just try to break it down to simple shapes/forms: rectangles, circles, triangles, etc. Always go from simple to complex. You can do the same with humans, these is usually called construction, this is key to draw humans from imagination (and from observation), some artist use only lines to represent the limbs and cubes for the torso and pelvic mass, others use cilinders, a circle or oval/egg shape is usually used for the head. Try them all and see what it works best for you.

There's not a book for everything, nor a method for everything, experimentation is key to mastery.
