Take care of yourself physically. Getting a little excercise each day helps with energy levels and will allow you to focus better on work.
I haven't got much exercise in the last couple of months, because I've been focused on work and improving my art, and while I have learned a lot, it's much harder for me to focus on my work now, and I'm constantly battling grogginess.

Use hierarchy. I mean it's obvious to start with the big details when working on a figure and working down to the smaller ones but no one thinks about how that relates to the composition. You have to think of your composition as an 2D abstract design that relates to your canvas and then you can start roughing out the representational stuff and go down to the details.

Yeah, it's called talent. People who have higher IQs like asians naturally have a much faster time internalizing art. Hence, why they are so good at it. There is a reason why the greatest drawer in the world right now is Kim Jung gi and the great painter is Ruan Jia.
