main problem is, you have no idea what you're copying or why it works, you're just copying it. most egregious is her back... cute ninja girl is missing a shoulderblade, maybe both. you've clearly no idea where the ribcage and pelvis is supposed to go. anatomy of foot is nonexistent....and her toes are all the same length for some reason. also the hands are wrong but you knew that

you replaced the perfectly good angle of the face with a profile, but eyes don't look like that from the side even in animu, i attached a junji ito face for example

look at the negative space of the photo pose, like between her arms, and compare it with yours. she has round curves, and bicep muscle evident. the outside curve of her arm also helps the gesture of the pose.

the yellow is kind of eye searing, but i like that you made it your own character with a seperate expression, a lot of people here just get caught up in studies and don't make their own stuff, that's no good

i would suggest getting a reference photo of a skeleton and drawing it over the top of some of this thread's pictures using landmarks like >>3107698 , to learn how the bones sit in the body.

i would suggest starting with the overall shape and feel of the animal, then move onto the scales. for example the animal only swells in slightly at the neck, not the drastic right angle you have drawn

Well the ribs look odd because that's kind of armor. I think and that wouldn't show the rib cage. I know the hands are wrong. And honestly I thought the arms were fine till you pointed it out but damn are they not in the right spot. I didn't want the other leg to be the same as the picture just to try something else out.
I didn't realize the shoulder either. And I didn't dray the muscles out because I didnt think the clothes would show it and that little shoulder thing kinda blocks it. The design for the character was actually from /smg/ on here. I like to test out the images from here on there my style of that. If that makes sense.
I knew the foot was already weird looking. Honestly am no good with hands and feet but I'm trying. And that was my first time ever drawing toes. I tried to make it look like they were farther back. Guess that didn't work.
With the face I thought it was a profile so I drew it as one. Unless you mean angle as in tilt, in that case I tried my best without tracing it. Which I have been accused of doing when I just worked really hard on something. This was a sketch but also no t a sketch. Plus the coloring makes it look worse. Another thing I'm working on. I don't want to do basic animu coloring and shading. So I'm testing the waters.
Thank you for the help. I've just started getting back into this and trying to learn to not get sad about criticism. It really does help to have someone point out the wrongness. I'll try posting before I finish an image though because I will not go back and fix these mistakes on this picture. I agree about the yellow too.

I think you successfully captured the likeness of the model, but I think you should try to more accurately reproduce the values in the ref. For instance the ref has a stronger contrast between light and shadow than your painting. Something that might help with that is using a five value system where you try to organize your values in terms of white, light grey, mid grey, dark grey, and black.
