Do you like charcoal?
How you avoid your works to get ruined after a while?

charcoal is awesome, been experimenting using water with it. pic related was my first go. also try using fixative?

Maybe treat them with spray lacquer or varnish?
As for me, I've tried it sometimes but I work too messy and can't get a good grip on it so I stick to pencil.

use fixiative spray

Goddamn, white people have no ass. That's why i'm black, I have a big juicy booty that bounces up and down with every step I take.

Charcoal and pastel are one of the best tools I've experimented with. So workable and you can get an incredible range of value. 9/10 would use again until i die
Would someone be willing to do a charcoal of my wife? You can email it to me at [email protected]. Thanks!

It'll take one live session for that.

All I know is I get completely frustrated with it. I don't know how people do small details and stuff. Drives me nuts, I spend 30 minutes shading the nose then I accidentally touch it with the tip of anything and it's all GONE.
It pisses me off because I kinda hate it, I find it to be the single most difficult medium, I can't draw shit with it, but I absolutely LOVE how it looks, it's amazing if you figure it out.

you must be going about it wrong somehow, charcoal should be relatively easy. have you tried painting? perhaps that will give you a lighter touch

I draw with pencil mainly, and I wanna move into ink eventually. I went to a drawing class in which they used charcoal and that's when I had to try to use it, but yeah, not sure why but I fail terribly with it. Can't quite get different tones, it's black or gone, takes a lot of time to create tones and it's hard to be accurate, easy to fuck up.. eh, not sure if it's worthy the effort it would take me to learn that when I just wanna do ink eventually. Not really too interested in painting yet, never done it.
if digital tools didn't exist i'd be using charcoal/conte, i can't be assed to deal with paints
>>3099737
what sort of charcoal are you using?
>>3099761
Cretacolor "Natural Charcoal". I also have a compressed one but never felt inclined to use it, I was told that one is good to give off small details when you are kinda done with your drawings, but I just struggle so much to get ANYTHING right with it it drives me nuts.
Drawing with pencil took me like 15 min just a loose kinda warm-up for fun and the charcoal one was like 30 minutes and an absolute failure. I am quite the beg as you can surely tell.

Try making your own. There are tons of YouTube videos showing how. Each type of wood has a different characteristic when made into charcoal, you can get harder types, and softer.
You can make charcoal with an altoids tin and a blowtorch.

You hold it real close at the tip of the charcoal, at the ends of your fingers.
