The best way to get good fast is to grind fundamentals only, no doodling. Learn How to Draw by Scott Robertson from cover to cover until you get it and do a shit lot of construction exercises. Once you understand perspective, form and other disciplines are easier to grasp.

You gotta do perspective, the sooner the better. I had free time during the winter so I pretty much dived in for the 8 to 14 hours a day meme.

I did a lot of random doodling before getting serious into perspective, never saw much progress. Pic related is some of the earlier perspective work on traditional, this is from February. Anything older is Pony stuff, which I doubt anyone wants to see.

I dunno, there's a variation of theme abd focus in the thread. Quite a lot of human/humanoid work but there's black and white or coloured pieces.
Some have tried out backgrounds and others have monsters/other beings as a focus too.

I don't think it's too "samey" as you say but it's probably just a lot of the same concept and execution. Style wise there's a lot of variation and it's interesting to see. At the moment, this is all just probably comfort zone work but regardless, it's nice to see the difference of ages, styles and works. Maybe we'll see other works or different pieces another time.

Your style is really homely though. I don't know why but it's really simple but eye catching. Do check the artwork out though, it's more exaggerated but it waa the first thing to come to mind when I saw yours.

Got curious, wanted to figure out the average age of d/ic/ks based off this thread.

I didn't count every post, but did factor in 68 different entries. I got lazy near the end and skipped a few, and I didnt include anyone ovet 40. Of the entries I counted, I got an average age of 21.82, or 22.

So given my numbers, one could likely expect the average /ic/ poster to be close to 22 years old.

Sometimes this place is extreme oily. Mostly, when the face is unwashed or sweaty. And sometimes the light comes from the side if the face, what it is the case here. If so, the light reflects as like as other oily places like the tip of the nose or like said between the eye and nose.

I start also with 28 serious with drawing... now I am 30. As kid I draw often in my free time but never serious and I was the best in art and drawing at this time in school. Many other kids called me as the little cool comic-artist. Sadly I stop drawing in my teenage/youth because I think I have no talent and suck at drawing. I want to draw anime/manga style and it was too hard for me and I suck so hard. I can only draw my own european comic style but I don't like it... this is why I stop drawing for a long time.

Just for fun as kid in the elementary school. I draw often comics as kid and was the comic-artist in my class. Always the best in art. Later in my teenage time I stop with 16 because I believe the drawing-style what I want is too hard or I have no talent at all. With 28/29 I start again and I want to realize my childhood/youth dream.

As a whole, digital just have so much more importants options than traditional. You can try things without any fear of fucking up instantly. layers and liquify are a godsend of tools for more complex works. You can make variants of your drawings if you want, which is a game changer for a character designer for example. You can more in details than you could ever hope to on paper.
I was terrible at shading and coloring on paper, but with digital I learnt a ton of stuffs and got better much more quickly than I could ever hope on paper.

Digital is just infinitely more fun to me, now that I have a good workflow and more mastery on it. If you think traditional is easier, that must be because you don't have much experience with digital.
