In the market for a matte fixative for some drawings on paper, and I'm new to charcoal. However, I have nearly a full can of matte wood finish spray that barely gets used as it is. Could that spray maybe do the same job as a fixative?
Spray it on blank paper, see if it marks it. Otherwise, check the ph. All i can think is that it might be corrosive.

Great, thank you. Do you think it would seal it the same? Or at least same-ish? I don't care so much about how they age, I just don't want the charcoal smearing on stuff

i don't think so, that sounds too thick, but you can test it like the other anon said. the classic make-shift fixative is hair spray, so you could see if you have some of that around.

Thank you! I'll try it out and post later

Seems to have worked I don't know how it will age, but the charcoal does not smudge when I move my fingers over it, everything is holding in place
