People are passionate about conceptart.org because they remember it from its heydays, so they are probably more dramatic and negative about it than they should be. I mean, it IS a shadow of its former self, but what internet forum isn't these days?

CA used to be the biggest baddest art place online, it's painful for some people (including myself) because there likely will never be something like that again. There was a lot of drama some years back which is the main reason people stay off it, ranging from malware problems, spambots to shady business practices and hurt feelings. I wasn't around at the time so I don't know the details but none of the people involved are around and if you're refusing to use the site out of some misplaced fan loyalty to artists who got their fee-fees hurt, you're a cuck

It's not the most active place in the world, those good old forum days are gone on the internet, and the UI is clunky, but it's good enough and beats the alternatives (Levelup, DA etc). There's good community activities and plenty of crits to be had. A dude who posted in the draw thread here basically got called the next ruan jia, and got his ass handed to him posting the same work on CA

most people here are very young, very bad at art, and haven't developed any taste. so they love Ruan Jia and some anime guys and shit on everything else for nonspecific reasons.

Yeah, I miss those days a lot. Being in frequent contact with people we really admired and the big chance of networking with them made that place epic. Also, I think the work load was way lower and internet overall was smaller, so professionals had the time to interact. Today if two popular artists group up to participate with the community, soon hundreds of followers will gather up to interact... The business today is too popular and too much young artists wanna get in.

I prefer forum platforms way more than groups like we have on facebook, but as most mid-high tier artists will mostly interact with just noobs in those said forums, people lose the will do update.


Also, I abandoned my thread in permanoobs years ago for this exact same reason.

So has the 17 GB file been dropped yet? I'd like to have it, for posterity. There are some pretty great sketchbooks on there.I'm a little sad now that I never took the jump despite registering...
