Hitler was the original /ic/ NEET from 1905.

"After dropping out of high school in 1905 at age sixteen, Adolf Hitler spent the next few years in brooding idleness. His indulgent mother patiently urged him to learn a trade or get a job. But to young Hitler, the idea of daily work with its necessary submission to authority was revolting.

With his father now dead, there was no one who could tell young Hitler what to do, so he did exactly as he pleased. He spent his time wandering around the city of Linz, Austria, visiting museums, attending the opera, and sitting by the Danube River dreaming of becoming a great artist.

Hitler liked to sleep late then go out in the afternoon, often dressed like a young gentleman of leisure and even carried a fancy little ivory cane. When he returned home, he would stay up well past midnight reading and drawing.

He would later describe these teenage years free from responsibility as the happiest time of his life."

"As a young boy he had shown natural talent for drawing. His gift for drawing had also been recognized by his high school instructors. But things had gone poorly for him in high school. He was a lazy and uncooperative student, who essentially flunked out. To escape the reality of that failure and avoid the dreaded reality of a workaday existence, Hitler put all his hope in the dream of achieving greatness as an artist."

>high school drop out
>loner
>hated working for others
>lived as NEET with mommy's support
>dreamed of becoming artist
>enjoyed reading and drawing.

How many of you can relate to young Hitler?

I feel like Hitler's artwork is often critiqued with prejudice, from a purely artistic perspective, what do you think of his art? (pic related)

He got rejected from Vienna Art School twice..

His rejections from Vienna Art also makes me very curious, were artistic standards SUPER high back in the early 18th century? or are art schools just way more lenient now in accepting shit artists?

In this day and age, Hitler likely have gotten into the best art schools with his ability.

"One modern art critic was asked to review some of his paintings without being told who painted them and judged them "quite good". The different style in which he drew human figures, however, the critic said, represented a profound uninterest in people."

Art schools aren't prestigious institutions anymore.

Now you can get into art school with a portfolio full of faggy pop art and amateurish shit.

In an alternate timeline, The name Adolf Hitler would been ranked among the likes of Picasso and Dali.
>>

It's eerily similar to how I spend my youth. Only difference is he became a monster, I became a (somewhat) successful artist.

Maybe he should have not given up when he got rejected from art school and read Loomis.

he was ok, not amazing, showed technical and aesthetic potential.
you have to understand the economy of his country at the time was the worst in the civilized world. this meant that in order to work you basically had to compete in the character attribute of slavery with thousands of others. he fought bravely in ww1, being wounded twice and promoted. he wasnt the lazy neet you are depicting him as, he just had a passion for nobility and greatness that vastly succeeded that of any normal person.

Saw this in an article in the telegraph, from a dean at an arts school in the UK:

>"Of course, remembering the Hitler diaries which turned out to be turkeys, one has to be careful though these do look authentic and presumably have been checked out as to their provenance.
>"They look quite typical of an aspiring student hoping to get into art school - tentative and not very certain about his perspective when he's using pencil and pen, making basic errors by getting the top and the bottom of a candlestick wrong in relation to each other and so on.
>"And he doesn't yet have much in the way of technical skill, but it's not so bad that one can't imagine him learning - especially when he's bolder with the charcoal or black chalk.
>"But there's no latent genius here, and not much beyond a moderate GCSE. Probably if the artist was at school today you wouldn't encourage him to keep the subject up at A Level.
>"So if they are part of a portfolio submitted with an application to study at a major European art academy, the selectors were right to reject him - they just don't suggest he was more than pretty marginal and mediocre for a potential art school entrant then or now.
>"If they are what he sent in he definitely wouldn't have been worth interviewing for a place.
>"Now, of course, they have an altogether different historical interest for us, but sadly that isn't one that has anything to do with art."

For a top school, he definitely wouldn't be accepted - I had classmates in HS who drew better than him, and I went to a school in a small town with like, 15 people. But he's definitely better than your average American podunk U art student, even seniors.

Not even hide - the trapper or whatever the fuck has small hands that have very little detail on them, and the detail they have is anatomically non-descript.

I'm honestly surprised someone so good with watercolors, and architectural descriptions, and just general drawing sense, actively ignored anatomy and figure features, perspective, and a host of other fundamentals.

Some of his architecture stuff seems quite muddy and lacks correct values and contrast but he could have fixed that further down the line and could have become quite good.
though you chose one of the better paintings to post in this thread. A lot of the drawings on there http://sobadsogood.com/2013/07/22/25-rarely-seen-artworks-painted-by-adolf-hitler/ are quite awful to borderline kitsch.
