Some say socialist-realism, but googling it provides all kinds of different paintings, only a few are vaguely similar.
This piece is made by the "Mansudae Art Studio" in the DPRK. They sell their paintings but do not do commissions. I would like something similar to pic related but more "American"

Actually I would also call it Socialist Realism. I can't think of too many American painters whose work has the same feeling as the one that you posted. Maybe some of Norman Rockwell's work? Or Morgan Weistling?

Just curious, what would you be willing to pay?

Although they are different, looking at some of Rockwell's paintings invoked the same nostalgic and warm feeling I was looking for. I was only familiar with his famous "dinner" painting but I really like pic related. Thanks anon.

I've never bought a painting before, I'm not too sure about pricing. I'd want a modest painting around 3 feet wide and 2 feet high, it would be the centerpiece of my home. I would feel comfortable paying around $2000, I could go as high as $4000, but i'd feel guilty about spending that much and would only do so if I was completely taken by the quality. I am not a rich man.

That's a decent budget actually, but keep in mind what you want is something that requires an insanely high skill level and you likely won't be bale to find anyone able to do a good job on it, or if they can do it they will probably charge way more than what you can afford.

anon, that's just plain propaganda

Propaganda.

I'd say its Romanticism of some description.

Imagine being tasked with having to draw one of the Kim Jong Ching Chongs and they tell you "YOU NEED ROOMIS!" when you fuck up before being executed.
