I cannot believe this is even acceptable in the art world, not only that but incredibly profitable! Shouldn't art have some standers relative to the quality of the craft? It seems now that all that matters is how good of an advertiser/huckster you are, convincing people that a literal blank canvas is something to be impressed by despite minimal to zero effort and or craftsmanship going into it.

welcome to post Warhol culture. actual art still exists but you have to actually know something to distinguish the fake Warhol/ abstracts from the real.
imo, art has fractured into some separate categories (note: i haven't put much effort into revising this list)
-design aesthetic/ advertising themes (logos, patterns, slashes of color on canvas incorrectly dubbed 'abstracts')
-positivism art (ppl that treat art creation as a mathematical process. identifiable by the value they place on realism, perspective, anatomical correctness.)
-expressive art (arguably the only true visual artform that ties together visual aspects like form and aesthetic within a coherent composition.)
-actual abstracts.
-illustration (comic drawings and mindless rendering, which overlap a bit with positivism art.)

Racist. If we would judge art based on merits than classical European art would win every time. Art is supposed to be so subjective that even a blank slate can be beautiful and meaningful. If we judge art by modern progressive standards it will be far more inclusive for women, queer culture and people of color
