So there's an architecture degree program at my school. Would taking a technical drafting class help teach me anything art wise, or would it be a waste of time?

it'd be useful
a drafting class? yeah maybe. but if its anything like the ones i did then its just a lot of rulers and patience. if your interested, though, i highly recommend.

I had a feeling it'd be that. Though I thought it'd be good in terms of training perception and visualizing spaces and objects in 3d. I'm certainly interested either way, even if it's not very creative work.

Unless you are specifically interested in designing architecture, I'd say pass. I assume a good deal of work also revolves around programs like CAD which is probably not a good time investment. I'm not saying it isn't useful, drafting would perhaps enhance your precision in making perspective grids, understanding the fundamentals of building design would help with your imagined creations.
All things considered I'd probably just practice drawing buildings from life and maybe watch some videos on the subject if you want to design buildings or summin.

This one is specifically not computer animated. Or I think it is, since another course in the same section is specifically for CAD.

that would be the more design-oriented classes, but as you probably know those are an immense timesink.
the intro to drafting are very tardproof, youll be drawing boxes and shit.
The guy that made Blame! started as arquitect

Incidentally that artist is one of my biggest inspirations. I never knew he started as an architect, but it's a nice coincidence. Zdzisław Beksiński also started as an architect!

I'll leave this here.
You'll be making only 2 dollars more per hour doing illustration than someone drawing blueprints on autocad.
the diference is the guy doing blueprints will have employeers fighting to get him a job, while nobody is looking for illustrators unless you're world class.
you can still make art as a hobby and do porn on twitter I guess while having a normal job.
Katsuhiro otomo has a an Architech degree :D
