Yes because they teach you the basics of construction.
Fun with pencil as a whole is just trying to teach you that you need basic shapes to form the image. That's why he starts you off with this fun way to make goofy characters from simple shapes.

In Loomis's first book, FwaP, His first clear message is his own introduction as well as the "You can do it too!" mindset. It's basically to get you to actually draw from start to finish with the human body's most drawn feature, the Head. You might not want to draw his now unfashionable caricatures, but around 30 pages in he starts to get into more detail with Construction and Landmarks which is vital to doing proper studying
