I dunno i dont think about it when i draw. You need to learn how to shraf (sorry i dont know english term) putting one lines onto anothers in slightly different angle so it will give you full spectrum of shades. After that its just training

Yeah thats right i personally use method of doing circles to cover surface and after that anotger surface and another till im satisfied with gradient i want to achieve
