This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies, however, all forms of stylization is welcome here. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.
Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, only kids play in easy mode!

I keep pluggin' away at this but I'm feeling the burnout coming on strong
Painted these last night... 420 y'all drawheads
>>3072015
Stop polishing that turd. You could of started with at least 10 different figures by now but no you insist on continuing working with that shit. Move on there's nothing more you could do it's fundamentally flawed stop looking at it and come back a month and you'll see just what a huge waste of time it was.
>>3072022
Redline very welcome
>>3072029
Please explain~?
repsotan from last thread >>3071909
hoping to get some thought before I continue
>>3072033
not that anon but I personally find the faces kinda unappealing they look a bit old, granny old with some of the way their body's shaped, mainly the 3rd picture though.
I would explore more and look at some artworks in w/e specific style/field that are "appealing" to look at so you'll view what works and what doesn't from your view and others.
>>3072044
Hey thanks for the suggestion. Faces are the most difficult thing for me to draw so it makes sense to focus more on them.
>>3072062
post your work.
>>3072043
resize your images before posting it next time
>>3072009
oh hey, that's my drawing! it's nice of you to use it as the OP!
any critique or advice is still greatly appreciated :-)
>>3072064
nice
>>3072015
like the pose and grey theme. Its like im looking at artsy porn. I think the problems with the anatomy are the arms and the ear place too high.
>>3072022
cool coloring. But i feel like the form of the body itself is not too creative and you should spice it up more than just focusing on the color. And there are some proportion problems here.
>>3072043
i feel like the perspective of the torso is off, but other than that its good.
>>3072064
Really like this line art. But its a bit too chicken scratch for my taste. Id say to go back and clean it up a little.
>>3072163
Thanks for feedback. You are spot on.
>>3072185
CERTAINLY A SELECTIVE MEMORY.
>>3072188
y-yes selective memory
>>3072185
Just saw it, looks like shit and a try hard sanders.
yoyo how it go.
so decided to sketch this bad boy out and aside from the hands and probably broken anatomy, I was wondering:
How far can you push perspective and still make it seem right?
Like, I in no way took the time to properly construct this and just sort of eyeballed the pose and perspective and was wondering how much can you get away with in that respect.
Anyways, I appreciate any help on this or critique on the doodle, thanks anons.
keep drawing!~
>>3072224
draw a box, and no not the "draw a box" tutorials actually draw a box.
>>3072219
jealous
>>3072229
are you asking me to draw a box in perspective or? I'm confused.
Skrewed up the perspective of the two bodies, since I was indecisive in the start whether or not to cut the characters off at the waist or not.
Any other visible mistakes?
>>3072247
why the little one floating?
>>3072260
Because I had first anticipated to just cut off the bottom part of the image, so I hadn't really given any thought to how they stood.
>>3072267
fair enough. I don't think you should cut it off at the waist, but redraw the lower halves so that they both fit in the same perspective.
>>3072185
>>3072219
>>3072204
NOT YOU HIM. check what else was said about his art.
>>3072233
not him but im guessing draw a box in perspective and construct your character inside it/"sculpt" it from the box
>>3072346
so like as long as the box is in proper perspective and the character is withing the box it should be fine?
Thanks for the clarification.
>>3072456
>so like as long as the box is in proper perspective and the character is withing the box it should be fine?
No.
little panel detail that came out nice.
>>3072093
bloggu pls
>>3072355
posted meaning posted art
Character design/reference, still haven't added color to the clothes. Thoughts?
Critique please? all from imagination so i mostly need critique on anatomy and maybe lighting if you know better.
>>3072636
Hair color looks kinda off, but that might change after you color the clothes, dude looks gay af but the drawing is very nice senpai
>>3072812
cool stuff.
critiq? And yeah, he is pregnant
critiques?
>>3072907
Character's values all around seem too close to the background's value. It looks dull. Use more lights and darks.
Aldo the nose is a bit on the long side, that and/or the nostrils are facing too far to the right.
>>3072913
i see, thanks
>>3072913
*also
>>3071737
Thanks!
Here's some pose sketches- any thoughts on any of these /IC/ ?
>>3072779
Yeah I was going for a surfer dude-kinda vibe with the hair, hopefully the clothes colors balance out the really light hair, if not I'll change it. Thanks!
Did a request for /v/. They said I needed more Loomis.
Anyone have a more in depth critique?
Also any tips on inking in general?
>>3072721
something about the neck, or lack thereof bothers me. I think you should look at a reference rather than do it from imagination. That's all that really stands out to me personally, overall I like it
Not sure if I should try and finish this
>>3073020
Pic related is the best inking guide I know of
I feel the most blatant issue with your pic is the face. The eyes are widely spaced out and the expression seems uncomfortable. Try putting the eyes closer together, and lowering them a little bit. Lower eyes creates a larger forehead which often makes characters look more youthful and cute. Also, look at more reference pics of people smiling, both photos and stylized stuff.
>>3073076
Very noice m8
>>3073020
Like the anon above said the biggest problem is the face, eyes and lips in particular. I think they (/v/) disliked your stylization.
If you gave her animu-ish eyes and just a simple line for the lips it would've been cuter.
>>3072468
lol ok then I'll just go grind out perspective then. Thanks.
>>3072984
Lum?
I'm not that good so I can't give much feedback on a technical level, but on a purely aesthetic level I like it anon. Feels cozy.
>>3073020
>They
most likely another d/ic/k
>>3073087
>the dude on her left is her actual hand or something
>her other hand is made out of hair I think
don't tell me she is eating her own hair too
>>3073059
but you wouldn't see any neck from that angle?
>>3072233
He means the website tutorial, DrawABox.
http://drawabox.com/
some arm practice
>>3073078
Did you forget to post the guide?
>>3073280
nig, when your arms raise, they twist in a way where the delts are more towards the back. Well, I think so at least. So you wouldn't see much of them from front view.
>>3073285
>I think so at least.
Lemme guess, it's your style
>>3073272
no u
>>3073285
> they twist in a way where the delts are more towards the back
The fuck are you talking about, delts don't magically move anywhere. If a muscular person raises their arms it looks like a second bizeps
>>3073300
no, I just thought thats how they were.
>>3073266
>>3073078
Fuck, pardon me, I was sleep deprived when I made that post
>>3073338
Are you using construction or references for these hands? They're kind of all over the place, both the anatomy and gestures look kinda fucked up. Study drawing some more realistic hands from reference, and then figure out how to stylize them. Drawing 50 hand poses from reference honestly helped me a lot.
>>3073224
I guess it's the way the head is placed, it's not that I can't see the neck it's that it feels like there's no neck there, and I think it's because the head is too high up.
>>3072719
Hey, nice to see you again. Alright, her right boob looks saggy, because you didn't align them with the shoulders correctly. Draw a box to guide you, I guess. Everything else is great, as always, but just do more construction.
>>3073391
you're asking this again, seriously
do you think that a fucking brush is going to make you not shit at drawing
>>3073355
But /beg/ either ignores me, or tells me to get out.
I'm trying to use more varied/unnatural colors for the first time and it's actually a lot more fun to paint & look at
>>3073410
>ignores me
good job, keep practicing
>get out
put what you've practiced into practice (then go back to practicing)
>>3073416
No wonder anon came here if that's the trash level of help he's getting in /beg/.
>>3072636
pretty cool. why the hell is he holdinga fig though?
>>3073415
yeah, light blue works fantastic on almost anything you wouldn't expect. a lot of elite artists use it a lot
i've been working on this thing for a while but i don't really know if i should continue it. something's off about it but i also can't draw anything better. :/ thoughts?
>>3073455
this fucking thread, man
>>3073477
yeah, i mean, i wasn't gonna keep that sketch as the actual lineart, but thank you. i'll try to make my shapes less messy next time.
>>3073415
this looks really nice! the light blue really adds to it a lot
i feel like her right leg and left arm/hand look weird, i could really use some input on what i could adjust. any other crit is also appreciated though!
>>3072557
i made a pixiv recently but i'll post it when i have more stuff on there!
>>3073415
Your anatomy's all kinds of fucked lmao
>neck on one side of the torso
>flat clavicle
>arms operating separately from torso
>ribcage operating separately from spine
>THREE FUCKING FINGERS
don't polish turds, if you want to practice rendering go render a competent artist's lineart
>>3073524
>don't polish turds, if you want to practice rendering go render a competent artist's lineart
Most retarded "advice from an obvious novice pretending they know shit" of the day goes to you, anon. Telling someone to not even draw for themselves but to practice on another artists' lineart, holy shit. That'll help.
>>3073535
Can you provide an actual reason why it won't?
>>3073535
actually it's not too bad an idea, student painters often do it
>>3073523
arm too long
looks like it's bending too because you didn't colour that outside line, which would mean the hand is the wrong way round
don't hide hands, at least make them semi visible somehow if you're going to stylize them anyway
foot wouldn't pidgeon-toe that far unless the pelvis was moved too, feet should be -roughly- mirrored
Don't channel too much of ZUN's art
>>3073539
you provided a list of drawing errors (all but one didn't even make sense), then told the artist to render on someone else's lineart "to practice rendering". how is that going to help with her anatomy problems if you're telling her to not even draw her own things to render? that's stupid as fuck. you only improve by drawing everything yourself and getting mileage on each thing. drawing on someone else's base isn't going make you improve any quick than drawing on your own base, except you'll be doing only half the work.
>>3073535
You are right, but for the wrong reason. Practicing with other artist lineart does help, but Dunning Kruger-san here is wrong to call that a turd. If the only pieces ever finished were perfect 10/10 anatomy then almost nothing would ever get finished.
>>3073553
this is really helpful, thank you so much! ZUN's art has a certain charm but you're right, letting too much of it sneak into my own drawing isn't a good idea.
>>3073557
>(all but one didn't even make sense)
go back to /beg/ until they do then before you ever post again
>>3073524
Don't be an ass and give actual constructive criticism. You're helping no one like that by just being a troll.
>>3072721
I dont like the wing form. Something more realistic for bearing weight would be good. She needs a foot. and the medallion thats coming off could have another one thats come off above it to give it a stronger sense of movement.
>>3072984
right shoulder seems too sloped. Add some shadig to the face. The form of the ankle and foot needs some work but I really like it. Star is my fetish.
>>3073420
>trash level of help
That's all that /ic/ has to offer though.
You could replace this whole board by writing MORE LOOMIS on the inside cover of your sketchbook with a green chisel-tip marker.
>>3073612
To be fair there are some people who know what they're doing.
Also I don't nearly remember this level of cancer compared to something like 2 years ago. I'm thinking this is a recent influx.
I never had anyone tell me something about Loomis back then.
>>3072984
Give her green hair dammit
>>3073524
Thanks for the info! There were things I didn't notice like the 3 fingers issue which I'll fix asap and the collarbones which i wasn't sure how to change but I'll figure something out. I used a reference for the torso so I'll look at it again and see how I can make it look more normal.
Wip. Crits?
Trying to get into art again after 2 years.
>>3073868
If by 2 years you mean two years of doing absolutely no art then yeah that's pretty decent. You should start with warmups first and to be honest I would do nothing but small warmups for quite some time. You need to readapt to drawing and visualizing 3 dimensions, like picking up how to play a game again after not playing it for years.
>>3073881
Ok so like drawing poses and gestures and shapes?
>>3073628
>there are some people who know what they're doing.
You are quite literally talking about less than a dozen people.
>>3073868
>can draw this well
>quit
I'm not saying you're the most amazing artist ever but why would you quit at the level you're at?
>>3073894
Thanks a lot anon, that means a lot for my low self-esteem. I guess I completely burnt out, I've tried very hard to get better but couldn't seem to improve at all, so I spent hours, then days. then weeks just looking at other (better) artists works and not doing anything myself, so one day I stopped doing art completely... however I never stopped browsing ic, artstation, deviantart...I dunno why.
>>3073903
I got to a similar level and did the same, glad you decided to start drawing again
>>3073909
Thank you anon, you too, I hope you reach your goals
>>3073524
>don't polish turds
>finished is better than perfect
Which one is conventional wisdom again?
My MC(left) needed two school friends so i came up with these two. Tell me how much my style is dated and how much i suck.
>>3073076
Hand seems a touch too small, otherwise I love your style. Great work on the colors and snek. P cute.
>>3073943
I like it honestly, looks like you're hiding hands tho
>>3073952
lol, theyre supposed to be walking, i didnt realized the blod characters hand/arm looks like its going into the girls butt
this guys name is Campbell
Heya /ic/, I don't know why but I never draw 2 times in the same "style"
>>3073990
All depend of the mood I'm into, and the music I'm listening to, if there is any
>>3073991
What about you /ic/ ? Do you manage to keep the same "style" ?
>>3073994
I really like these. I struggle with keeping the same style too
>>3074000
Thx anon ! I hope that I'll get used to one style later, because if I want to be a pro I'll have to I think
>>3073990
Like this one the most. The style you used feels th most cohesive while the other two have elements that conflict too much for me.
>>3074006

>>3074142
I love your lines.
>>3073261
Too much anatomy, not enough form.
Muscles are minor forms that have to conform to the underlying major form - a cylinder of the upper/lower arm. Without this in your mind, it'll always come off as a mess.
Don't take it the wrong way tho, you're getting there.

So since my career is failing I've decide to walk the route of drawing porn and whatever with the intention of making money from it down the line.
I've never drawn anime in my life, am I getting the proportions right here? is this the sort of thing people would look for?

>everyone knows the closer and higher they are, the better with anime.
you seem to have a pretty constrictive view of anime
>>3074852

anything
>>3074905
it looks great, stop samefagging your shit opinion
>>3074905
The others are just a few people. Some people like it, some people don't, whether the face looks good or not is a matter of opinion, not objective fact. It's important to take criticism and kill your darlings, but don't let others push you around just because your style isn't to their preferences.

>>3075244

>>3075276
I'm not shitting on the style, just pointing out the problems with the facial proportions. I kinda like the wide eyes too, but the right eye is straight up touching her ear and that's incorrect no matter how you look at it. It's not even on the same plane as the other eye.
>>3075282
Learn how to draw tits
>>3075249
Tried doing a shitty redline to think through all this issues in this piece. You seem to be lacking in construction, the body parts in your drawing dont actually connect to each other. The neck, for example, juts awkwardly out of the chest, with the trapezius looking more like a flat shape behind the neck rather than a muscle linking the neck with the torso.
>>3075282
>sorry for hiding hands

who's the grill supposed to be though, oc?
>>3075385
Pretty face, nice lineart. The hands look rather stiff and choppy in comparison to the rest of the picture, and that's a very awkward way to put on lipstick. Perhaps have her hold the lipstick more perpendicular to her lips, and practice stylizing hands some more to give them a better sense of movement and gesture.
>>3075398
Thanks, anon. I was using a reference of her in a poster she did for a project. I'll work on it as soon as I get my hands on a decent computer. Anyway, can you recommend a good colouring style for this?
>>3075412
Depends, what kind of coloring styles do you enjoy? Personally this lineart is giving me some Persona 5 vibes, so some bold, flat colors might look nice with it

It's ok... Necks bend... So long as the anterior and posterior curvature is proportional, it's fine...
Her Trapezius muscles are small and flat, and the curve at the base of the neck is sharp, but I assume that's a style choice and it looks good. That may be what makes the neck look long... It just looks a bit long to me.
>>3075519
You should really stop using ellipses.
>>3075516
>>3075517
>>3075519
thanks guys, i guess im just shit at anatomy. I tried to make her neck look smaller and erase some shadow, i think we would see more of her neck if she was bending. I wont post anymore because im kinda spamming this. So, very glad for the comments and critiques, helped me a lot
>>3075521
It looks like you just rendered and styled it the western way and slapped an anime face on it when you were done
>>3075528
Is that a bad idea? I've lesser experience in rendering compared to drawing and I'm starting to get used to rendering like this
>>3075532
Not the guy from before but it's extremely annoying and really translates that you're a total sperg and a weeb. Somebody who goes to class at the local community College in a half ass cosplay outfit from a shitty anime, and wears that same costume everyday.
>>3075528
That's a very broad statement and doesn't really address any of the problems with the picture
>>3075538
How is anime related to an incorrect use of ellipsis?
>>3075506
I see your work then I know why you talk so much shit.
>>3075542
post yours!
>>3074159
best itt
>>3075433
Good to see you again Magister. You've over-rendered the burger. Don't rely too much on black, and compose your ingredients so that we see the best of them. Right now the lettuce and meats have really unappetizing colors. The bun looks slimy and soggy; it should be crusty with a nice sheen of butter. Also keep in mind that subsurface scattering in the lettuce and cheese makes it more visually pleasing.
Here's a burg, I hope you will find inspiration from it.
>>3075554
Not anon but can you explain subsurface scattering in simple terms for the retards like me?
coloring is suffering
>>3075578
It's when light enters through a translucent surface (like skin, gems, meat, leaves, etc) bounces through it, and exits somewhere else from the initial lighted area. Best examples are leaves on sunny days or when you put your hands on a nearby light source ( it appears to glow red because of the blood in your fingers).
The veggies and cheese in that photograph exhibits it.
>>3075604
it's worth noting that this isn't a painting term, but a cgi term, seeing as you have to specifically model the effect in that circumstance. it's not a very important concept for painting as long as you understand what translucence is. and in fact in this context it probably would have been better for the anon to say something like 'and remember that the cheese and the lettuce are both translucent so light is filtering through them upping the chroma and making them almost glow slightly' or something like that.
not that i have anything against using cgi terms for painting, but they are more obtuse and often not used quite accurately, which means if you end up working with a cgi guy that there'll be syntax errors.

blog?
>>3075433
making me hungry anon.
what am i doing maties
>>3075705
your style doesnt seem fit for anime. With a bit of practice maybe but you might do better with a style like Norasuko (pic related)
You might want to go with that.
>>3072554
Blog?
>>3074552
How did you manage to make the face worse you fucking goofy cunt
Go study anime before you attempt to draw it you dumb motherfucking gaijin
>>3075719
I typically do this sort of thing so anime is definitely not my forte. thanks for the recc, will look into norasuko

please
>>3075727
but watch out, most of his work is really nsfw
>>3075705
That neck looks way too wide imho. Also maybe you could add some darker, more saturated shadows, that hair is looking a little muddy. The body looks pretty nice though

don't leave beg for the next six months
>>3075795
don't leave beg for the next three months
How do you guys come up with poses?
>>3075799
I think of a pose, draw it then put a 3d model in the same pose to see how much I ducked up
>>3075795
/hyw/ tea shop guy? Is that you?
>>3075799
Do some shapes with a very soft round brush and feel out the rest.
Do you like my lion?
>>3075839
I like all of your stuff and I'm not even a furry. Keep it up
>>3075839
I like her, she's a qt. The wrist area is looking rather odd though, in that she seems to lack on. Her forearm just goes straight into her hand. Some more indication of the joint between her forearm and hand would be welcome.
>>3075885
echo right?
>>3075886
Yep. I'm surprised people even know me.
>>3075839
no, it's anencephalic
>>3075515
No one would ever get a haircut like that, anon, that's pretty much just a short mullet
this was just a for-fun doodle but i'm wondering now if it's worth it to fix her hand
>>3075885
>You recognise me?
nigger you fucking signed it look its right there
>>3075928
Move on to the next piece
>>3075936
gotcha

That's not my full name though.
>>3075960
hes still right about knowing your work from the name you use.

moving on
>>3076175
actually no scratch that.
Crits/Suggestions? I've been loomising like a motherfucker and tried to improve on these designs i made a couple of weeks ago for a
comic.
Are there any resources in the OP for moving onto lines and coloring?
did a landscape
Critique is welcome, i did this based on a reference
How do i get into the world of color? It has been endless grinding of fundies and side projects for fun but nothing in color, once in a while i would try adding with colored pencils but it's so fking shit that i go back to pencil only, i have seen and read about color, blending, burnishing, adding layers, pressure, but i cann't seem to progress, it ends up looking like if a 5y/o did it
The reasons that i can come up with are, i am shit and that i dont have the correct materials, i am using some generic colored pencils
>>3076489
Although I do find this style very appealing it always feels like only a few people know how to execute it well, nothing wrong with it, just learn to convey form in a 3D space, even if it's anime.
>>3076489
fix those pupils and it will look good.
>>3076559
Believe or not, the pupils are something i struggle to do, it is retarded how much time i spend trying to do them decently, even when i am doing studies of portraits, i cannot replicate them properly, any tips about it?
Thoughts on the color palette?
>>3076590
Why'd you think it was a good idea to give him nipple piercings
critique
>>3076642
You fucked up the neck again
>>3076647
fuck, someone spank me
>>3076651
Just practice some anatomy, your expressions are already fine. Also, I don't know if it's just me but the position of her hands seem very unnatural.
>>3076666
well shit i might fap to this sadistic loli later.
>>3076674
youre supposed to fap to my art. kys
>>3076584
i never draw digitally, and I'm not really used to the style you draw in, so it may not be that helpful. But basically just try to make the other eye look to be in the same perspective. That way it will look like the eyes are focused on a certain location.
just my opinion though.
>>3076679
wtf why did u delete the loli, i didn't fucking save it yet. Bring it back you bitch.
>>3076685
u put the eye too much on the right and rotate too much the left eye. your mouth is too far away from the nose and this give a monkey/nigger look to the girl. not sure if this is better but i tried to drawover
>>3076627
I wanted to give him sort of a hippie look, do they look bad?
>>3076700
He looks like a fuckboy and not in the good way
>>3076703
I'll see how he looks without them
long time lurker first time poster
>>3076248
i feel like i recognize this design... ah.
Tried some things.
>>3076642
Study the way the neck, clavical, and shoulders all connect to one another and the head. It would be passable if you learned these things.
>>3076709
That's a cool organic-mecha being. Adding some warm, saturated pops of color would make the palette more striking. Not that desaturated palettes are bad, but a lot of Taiwanese and Chinese artists using desaturated palettes with spots of extreme saturation and it looks amazing.
>>3076725
Love your lines and shapes! And designs, too! The foreshortening on the top left robot's forearms doesn't seem right, though, since the right-side hand is closer to us, but the forearm is foreshortened at nearly the same length as the left-side forearm. I hope I can draw bots like you one day!
>>3076776
honestly a bit of line accuracy and elegance would go a long way for your drawing.
new thread when?
>>3076776
it's a sketch layer, it's gonna be a painting? so wasn't too fussed about lines. thanks though i do see what you mean
new thread >>3076796
>>3076798
lmao id love to see your art see how delusional you are.
>>3076735
Thanks man. Good advice. Who are the Taiwanese and Chinese artists you're thinking of?
>>3076642
Realize the neck of a human is aligned to the BACK of the skull, not the damn middle. I hate it when people take the "anime" route.
>>3076715
Yeah, that was one of the designs that was meant to be an inspiration, along with TTGL and Kamen Rider.
It's supposed to be more of a pompadour though, once I get some shading in or draw some more angles of it hopefully that will be more clear.
>>3077396
I don't wanna take the wind out of your sails friendo, but that IS a pompadour.
Inspiration is good, but try to be sure to shake things up; If you're trying to do fanart as practice that's another matter and by no means bad, but make sure to keep it in perspective.
