Hi /ic/
I am drawing a comic for a friend that kinda know how to draw, she makes the story I draw.
Thing is, when I see her draw, she draws way worse than me, but her drawings look way better than mine, even thought mine are much better... Do I make sense?
I was sending some drawings to her, and she said that I draw Correct, but that my drawings look Ugly. I'm still not sure what she means by that, and it's not that I'm trash at drawing.
well maybe compared to most of you i'm not een close but I'm out of /beg/ for sure.
Have you struggled with this before? I know anatomy, I know form, I know how stuff works, but it looks ugly but correct. The fuck do I do.
>knows*
>even*
sorry for typos

It's simple, your aesthetic sense is shit while her sense is superior; however she lacks the same technical ability as you (probably from lack of milage ect.), making your drawings look 'ugly' but better in quality.
Just tell her to focus on her fundies and she would be at or better than your level.
Also post work, I'm curious.

im not asking advice for her, she doesnt take art in a serious way, im asking advide for me!
Thank you for the insight

This isn't bad by any means. Not necessarily 'ugly' either. Boring maybe, but hardly ugly.
Can you post something of hers too, please? Just so I have a comparison.
advide*
god damn.

her work, i dont think something like this can come out so easily from me, or even being able to come.
>>3071646
You have to be kitten me, OP.
Now that I have started this post, lets use it for another question.
Both drawings in the picture where done in the same time, why the fuck do I draw like the left sometimes and suddenly like the right?
This is really bad sometimes because I want to do something and it comes out as the one in the left, even after warm ups.
Almost feels like doing it like the right requires luck.
How to cure that?

Well, she sure has you beat in line quality and appeal. Can't really say much about her overall skill unless we see something more complex from her. If a less skilled artist draws very confidently in a highly simplified style, it will always look more appealing than if a slightly more skilled artist with very ugly beginner line quality tries to draw pseudo-realism.
>>3071651
Anon you have a tendency to shift the facial features to one side.
Start correcting this ASAP. It'll be very hard to correct later on.
>>3071584
It's really hard to know what the hell you're talking about unless you provide us with an example of your work. But from what you've said, it sounds to me like you have a better grasp of realism and fundamentals than she does, but she can stylize in order to make her drawings appealing and you can't.

>shift facial features to one side
I'd like to hear more about that, what do you mean?
>>3071662
well fuck it, ill go search for more work to post, I'm kind of afraid of posting since my work is really inconsistent as to skill, but fuck it, ill post. (to my eye)
>>3071598
that pic is amazing
You haven't surpassed /beg/ level.
Your lines aren't confident which might be contributing to the ugly look, but you just need more practice in general.
>>3071685
yeah... looking at my work now, im a complete shit.
I'll work more anons. Thanks.
>>3071651
anon, i can't see a difference. one on the left looks younger than one on the right, but both are equally shit. keep drawing
>>3071689
Just don't give up hope, alright?
Nice thread! You guys are alright.
Her drawings may look more appealing but only in terms of cartoony and anime looking. The thing you have to think about is what kind of audience you are trying to attract. Both of your guys styles serve different demographics.
>>3071734
There is no demographic for the "style" of a beginner trying to draw some weird wannabe-realism / anime combo with ugly lines that lack any confidence.
>>3071651
>>3071664
Everything is skewed, it's not on the line of symmetry. If the face was perfectly straight it wouldn't look like that. If the face was looking slightly to the side, it still wouldn't look like that
>>3071738
right but what makes you think op wants to stay in that level of skill forever? They are clearly trying to improve themselves and find direction other wise they wouldn't have posted here asking for help. All I'm saying is to not get hung up on someone else's style becuase when it comes to appeal, there is no linear scale of what styles are better than others.
>>3071598
omfg lost
coffee mug missing though
>>3071606
work on your shape language and appeal.
>>3071651
>Almost feels like doing it like the right requires luck.
because you don't understand what you're doing and sometimes you get it "right" by chance (they both look wrong really)
how to cure that ? work on it until you can't get it wrong, work on it until you figure out the reason for each lines and curves

Her leg/knee is fucked up
