when will this horrible disney style die?
>>3060136
At least it isn't tumblr art
what's wrong with it
>>3060136
When little girls die. And we don't want that.
>>3060154
i've seen this image so much that now i think it actually looks somewhat good, except for nonon being nigger
>>3060136
The artist did a good job capturing Gal Gadot's slope head.
>>3060176
It's not anime.
>>3060136
Killing off Disney style would also kill off anime.
>>3060136
Current Disney style is almost identical to Glen Keane era Disney style in the 80s and 90s. So, it's been going strong for the last 30+ years.
>>3060902
I wanna fucc that merboy
>>3060925
Which is great. OP is probably a fag who enjoys anime.
When will this horrible anime style die?
Stop copying Disney
are there really any unique styles left if we take out the generic anime/ disney wannabees?
>>3061447
I really dislike John K. All he did was make Ren and Stimpy yet he acts like he's this amazing animator whose better than everyone else. He's not that good of a draftsmen either. And didn't he raise a bunch of money for a new animated series and never deliver too?
>>3061447
>>3061452
John is fucking insane and a douche but I still love his style.
>>3061472
jesus fucking christ i feel sickened from this but i can't stop watching
>>3060925
how the fuck does that look like glen keane's style
>>3061514
It's not identical but the influence is obvious.
>>3060136
I've been seeing this god awful thumbnail in my youtube recommendations for days but then I realized that by every thumbnail there's 3 little dots you can click on and hide it to never see it again
Sometimes Youtube incredibly does not suck.
>>3060902
2 birds with 1 stone
>>3061514
That's fanart, not actual Disney art. Disregarding the obvious differences between 3D and 2D animation, the Disney house style hasn't changed much if at all since Tangled, which in return was very similar to Disney's work from the 90s where Glen Keane was invovled with.
>>3060902
Do you have the pdf to that artbook?
>>3061590
check artbook threads
>>3060136
When it stops making money from easy princess merchandising.
>>3061563
Good point.
>>3061444
personally i like the older anime styles a lot more than what's current.
>>3060154
what is pinkhair girl's body even doing? who poses like that?
>>3061750
you should check out Q Hayashida's work, she's got a very nice retro style, very 80's.
>>3061472
his blog is a goldmine, the dude is literally the animation equivalent of that grumpy old "get off my lawn you goddamn kids" guy. I can see why a lot of people dislike him, but I actually agree with a lot of what he says, even is he's a bit of an asshole.
>>3060136
I'm glad I'm not the only one. The only style objectively worse is this early 2000 cartoon style. Bleck.
>>3060154
true also that image is cancerous
Why should it die anyway? It's very pleasant to look at.
>>3060176
The stupid smirky raised eyebrow dreamwork expression for one, but also all the other irritating stock expressions you've seen a thousand times. It's like a bad incestuous copy of Disney conventions that no longer bear any relationship with the real world.
I don't know what it is with this art style that I find so grating. Might just be the blandness and lack of energy of it. It's also very, for lack of a better word, faggy looking.
>>3060136
why you want it? What will be rise over the disney style? Cartoon network shit?
>>3063176
>stop liking that i don't like
>>3063217
Cal Arts/Disney inspired style is objectively bland and only a nu-male such as yourself would defend it.
Now this is a fine drawing, and there are people who look a bit like this in real life I'm sure - but every part of the drawing from the features to the facial expression lack subtlety and are overbearing. Combined with this being a "generic" style, these problems are exacerbated for people who feel this way.
Seems like the style is generally characterized by arguably obnoxious features:
Thick brows in exaggerated positions, big black glaring centre of wide eyes, prominent nose and lips, mouth too close to nose, long chin, dark skin; and her general shapes are all top heavy, like triangles standing on their points -- all contrasted by her thin pole of a neck.
>>3063232
If you're used to anime, this is almost the exact opposite of what you like. There's a lack of self-awareness and nuance to this to the abstraction of the idea of a person. It makes you think bouncy and loud and annoying. It loses your respect on sight.
>>3063223
You mean subjectively, rated by an elitist who does nothing but go to /ic/ and bitch about how bland this style is.
There was always the Appeal in this style, otherwise Disney and the people who are drawing in that style wouldn't be insanely popular.
>>3063223
It's objectively a popular style, you subjectively don't like it.
>>3060176
Nothing, people just doesn't seems to understand that other people have different taste. I for one find it appealling and efficient.
>>3063250
people wanting to buy it doesnt mean people considering it to be of quality you fucking inbred pigdog
>>3061472
this is the work of a goddamn schizophrenic and no one can tell me otherwise
>>3063223
it's the style of the decade anon. when people look back at these years for 'retro insp', it's corey loftis and brittney lee they rip off.
>>3063243
>If you're used to anime, this is almost the exact opposite of what you like.
calarts style colours and face proportions are ripped off from anime you silly, it is a style invented by nostalgic weebs
>>3062768
thanks anon, i'll look her up
>>3063550
>being this autistic
"calarts style", as in actual calarts, not geometric rounded shapes a la Steven Universe and nuPPG as seen on /co/, is literally just Disney style, period. It can't be derivative of anime style because it literally predates anime style by at least a few decades. Even looking casually at something like 101 Dalmatians you can see a direct link between that and Disney's modern CGI output, just a little bit more generic and "template" ish.
>>3063550
Disney style is becoming more and more degraded and degenerated.
it's just bad. we need a revolution. or we need to go back to 2d.
>>3063559
being that literal is autistic anon
modern disney is inspired by anime, especially their product lines. it's old-disney glen keane mixed with some mary blair rehash and some anime.
>>3063567
the main problem is they model them all the same. big hero 6, frozen, moana all look like they're from the same universe, despite having wildly different concept art styles.
>>3063654
>he main problem is they model them all the same. big hero 6, frozen, moana all look like they're from the same universe, despite having wildly different concept art styles.
Couldn't agree more. There's no style variation amongst disney/pixar/dreamworks movies. This "sameface syndrome" is also probably enhanced by the universal usage of CGI animation.
>>3063523
either samefag or edgefag
either way you're a faggot
>>3063832
Look at big hero 6's protagonist's mom
Now look at Anna from Frozen
>spot the differences
>>3063654
I think some of you guys might be having some confirmation bias. A lot of Disney movies do have a samey look especially when princesses are involved (frozen, moana, tangled, princess and the frog, those straight to video tinkerbell movies) which are all derivative of Keane's style. But other Disney movies like Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, Wreck it Ralph, and most of Pixar movies, they do have their own style.
>>3063268
I like this a lot as well. It's a pretty slick style. Far different than disney of past. You can definitely see the manga style influences. Just influencing one another, this is how evolves.
>>3063550
There is no doubt that the style is similar to/inspired by anime. But small tweaks in style can have a huge impact on the core values people read from it.
>>3064036
The Incredibles was just the Cal Arts style of the time in 3D despite how much they claim to be influenced by UPA art. Glen Keane also does a similar Cal Arts style, they are almost one in the same. There isn't much creativity in CG character designs.
>>3064036
I don't like the lines in these sketches
>>3063232
Not defending it, but big ass eyebrows cat eye black eyes, huge mouths/lips is what is fashionable this days, just look at literally any makeup tutorial in YouTube or Instagram.
Tumblr style is pretty much the same but with the features even more exagerated (with big noses and dark skin and any facial hair and scar you can put in for progressive points)
>>3064453
>Draw clear, not clean
A guideline by Ollie Johnston. The work needs to be presentable, not pretty.
>>3064759
Or even better, you could do both, plenty manages that.
>>3064771
Sure but you don't know what context were these drawings made in.
>>3064774
Just saying, it's not a fatality or that important, it's just what they are.
>>3060154
>This is supposed to be Kill la Kill
>No Senketsu-esque clothes on Ryuko
>No Junketsu-esque clothes on Satsuki
>Mako looks like your everyday fat-fuck of a whale
>Nigger Nonon
I bet this shit got 10k+ notes on Tumblr.
>>3063187
Please god no. CN has just turned to shit since 2010
>>3065002
Don't forget about Ryuko's hairy legs and wardrobe-broad shoulders.
>>3060136
that sort of style occurred about the time of The Little Mermaid, Lion King era. The cartoon films that came from that era brought Disney back from the pit after mid-tier success, or lack of, between the 1970s and 80s.
So they likely felt this is what they are now sticking with in order to maintain their success since it reminds people of the appeal of The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, etc... brought to the franchise.
>>3064036
Pixar (or Disney+Pixar) is 3D animation done right. Disney is 3D animation done meh.
>>3060136
Guess how disney micky mouse new art style looks like...
Since asian art influences everything gets more retarded.
>>3068122
how is that asian influenced?
seems to be wanting to be a 50's cartoon more than anything
>>3067883
Are you a retarded anime watcher?
Zoomania is a disney production, without pixar and it looks nice.
>>3060154
I also post my shit on tumblr but dear god, shit like this makes me ashamed of saying I have a blog there.
The fat Mako and hairy leg Ryuko really ruin the whole thing.
>"A woman doesn't have to look good for no men, she doesn't have to shave"
FUCKING TUMBLR SJW BULLSHIT
>>3068122
>tfw asian cartoons do better old style western cartoons than current western cartoons
>>3068160
guess which ones have animators who know their fundies
>>3068160
>western cartoon style in 1937
Don't be retarded, you can be healed, stop watching anime.
>>3068122
there is literally no asian influence in this picture. It is more bringing design and caricature to the point of becoming unappealing.
