Probably because most artists on "normie" places don't know anything about art, they can't even name famous past artists other than VanGough or Picasso. They haven't been exposed to enough art to criticise anything about generic fantasy pieces like OP. I wouldn't say this completely lacks appeal though, the combination of grey tones+saturated colors looks pretty nice, the Kpop samefaces are shit though,and I say the following as a weeb, the "semi-realism" style needs to die, it's not anime and it looks uncanny as fuck.

i don't think that's right, i think when people get into art they understand it better than they did before, and so when they see some glossy but fundamentally flawed art they're like 'wtf is this, this isn't actually good, it's all shallow tricks, i remember what this idea is ripped off from and this is way worse!' and so forth

it's just a thing, i'm sure there's a term for it like 'studious rigor' or something where you're trying to learn to do something the correct way yourself and you kind of apply that to everyone else and get ticked off at them for 'cheating'
