i go to untutored life drawin classes, pretty dope. 6 bucks, 2hrs. some talent there but also a lot of shitters, which is great because it's all pretty laid back. i got bad social anxiety and i hate feeling inadequate about the shit i draw, but the environment there is really nice, no-pressure. you can ask the child prodigy autists for advice or glance at the catastrophy developing on the canvas of some pleb if you're feeling down.

just google it or check normobook for groups. it's become such a nice, relaxing/rewarding weekly thing for me, i really recommend it.

if you're from VIE/AUT i can tell you where it's at but i guess chances are pretty slim you live anywhere near here

Started this last night. It's digital, and I tried doing a kind of digital Grisaille to start, and used color blending modes in photoshop to simulate painting over a Grisaille with transparent hues. I'm not sure it turned out how I expected.

yeah, people in person. Also close relatives, so I know their reaction is strange. I think it's because faces are so meaningful to the human brain, that they react to the look or resemblance of the face more than to the technical/artistic aspect of the drawing, which is kind of what you're saying. You have almost no 3d rendering or use of perspective. Even when trying to recreate the photo and show the underside of your nose, it still falls flat because nothing is really rendered. None of your facial features show any sign depth at all and it looks incredibly simplistic. The best thing about this picture is the hand and that is saying a lot.

I like the eyes and nose, they're quite thick dollops of paint and I'm trying to achieve a technique of flicking the paint on with the brush to describe the features. From an Ensor portrait but also used by many famous artists.

I had another attempt at launching myself and yet again it crashes around my feet. And that seems to be that.

Scrapped off the lips and chin and cleaned it up to draw it out again.
