I don't like animating but I like the dynamic movement that animators seem to possess. Do you think I'll be able to gain that by doing "animation" on paper like in the example I posted or will I be missing out on some drawing skills by not animating.

If they didn't want porn of her why did they make her skirt so damn short
>>3044807
Can we post some more of these? I like this artist style and coloring
I've been animating to get better at drawing.
You should definitely animate, straight ahead and no onion skin.
>>3044834
Not OP and I don't animate but why no onion skin?
How do i gain the painting skills of a painter without actually painting?
>>3044807
Of you're going to do all that, you might as well just animate. Otherwise I would just do studies where you draw the same subject from multiple poses and angles.
>>3044807
Differentiate poses, never reuse the same drawings like a boring Garfield comic. So you also need knowledge of moving forms in space if you want to come up with great poses. Get this and if you ever animate anything, you'll find it natural.
Solid fundamentals are what constitute good animation, so these people saying you need to animate first to draw like an animator have no idea what they are talking about, that's working backwards.

You improve your memory while obtaining fluid animation if you flip between frames.

I don't understand. The example you posted IS animation...It's just not put together in single frames yet and it might lack a few inbetween frames here and there.
>>3045039
Yeah but is there something that I won't practice by not putting it in a single frame, like size and proportion?
>Just animate
I don't have time, plus I don't want to learn animation principles unless it's gonna help me with my art.
The reason animator's drawings look so dynamic is because they literally are dynamic by definition
>characterized by constant change, activity, or progress
When drawing a frame of animation, the animator takes into account the frame before and the frame after and the entirety of the action taking place.
A lot of illustrators don't really understand what a "dynamic" pose is. You'll see them draw characters in this spread out, elaborate poses that looks as if the character is in the middle of posing for the camera to look cool.
The animator knows that's not how it works though. Characters don't pose for the camera, they live their lives or act out their scenes and each drawing is just a snapshot of something that is actually happening in the world of the character.
I don't think you'd need to actually animate to get this mindset (though it wouldn't hurt)
You should try to keep in mind the "before" and "after" of a drawing. Think of your drawing as a snapshot in time instead of your characters standing still posing for the camera.

Yeah, that's what i'm talking about. Still movement. When I look at this animators illustrations they look like still movement rather than camera posing.
I find myself studying figure drawing poses a lot from websites. Maybe, I should be studying from video instead? Maybe I'll be able to learn "still movement" from that without animating.

One thing I did that helped a lot is go through kung fu movies and grab screencaps of the fight scenes. Unlike western stuff they usually actually have contact in the blows so it looks a lot more natural (plus the fight choreography is a lot cleaner so it's easier to find reference frames).
>>3045238
Hmmm, any preferred films?
>>3045832
Any of Jackie Chan's Chinese produced movies are good, the fight cinematography and choreography makes it very easy to find good references. If you aren't familiar with his works, I'd recommend starting off with the two Drunken Master movies.
>>3045195
that looks horrible and has none of the qualities you were talking about.
>>3044811
who said they don't want?
>>3044807
Damn that looks awesome.
Got any more of these? What are they called? Who are they by?

You need to kill yourself if you can't be assed to use reverse image search.

You need to kill yourself if you can't recognize Yoh Yoshinari.
