Out of curiosity but, after you watch a movie, do you go back and make a screencap of all the scenes you liked to use later as a reference?
Trying to capture particular facial expression or mood or just action?
I've personally never done this but it sounds like a really good idea
ya sometimes
mainly if I see cool values/colors/composition

Quite time consuming too.
Since I started doing it some sets go on hundredths of pictures.
Sonatine: 500 pictures.
Band of Brothers: 300 (it was one of the earliest when I didnt took many pictures.
The Pacific: 900 (since those are long series)
Many of them are really fun to draw later as well.

Pacific is pretty much Royal Koyanagi of war movies.

And then there is stuff that I never seen before but recognise on some kind of instinctual level so try to get it and understand later.
Like pic related.
Is there a good way to get caps without blur?
>>3039001
Pause the vid and then one frame step till you get somewhere without blur.
Sometimes there is blur in a whole scene but often there is a moment which is less blurry.
60fps vids and video games.
Since video games dont dont have blur by default (dont mean after-effect) you can take any game with good animation and poses and just screenshot it.
Old project insurgency provided me with some fairly good references back in the days.

In vidya you aiming for something looking natural.
Additional bonus is that even older game have graphics good enough to show all the elements of a rather complex outfit.

I study scenes with good cinematography, I learned a lot about composition this way.

Something about composition.

Nah, there are movie cap websites. Why bother to do it yourself.

>movie cap websites
First time hearing, any links anon?
As to the why bother yourself, its because I very much doubt there is a website that take 100 screencaps from every single episode in a 5 seasons series or something.
Even less likely they do it at the precise moment I want, for example when character takes a step and there is gesture in the pose.
Plus, I get to chose what I want, sometimes its about the face or the actor or the poster on the wall or scenery or the way shoes bend when actor walks or the light shines.

This shit's recommended to you in the book "Dream Worlds" by Hans Bacher.
So everyone, go and do it. Study those scenes and work on your shit
Thought the tread died long ago.

Havent read but it makes sense, unlike the real life, in movies director always try to set the camera at some interesting action, set the scene and try to show something relevant or interesting.
Not to mention it often does a great job carrying over the mood of the era, people faces and emotions, composition, I just regret I started doing it so late.
Will go put a chicken in stove and maybe upload a folder or two for people who missed on action.
If you have a pack like this upload as well with name of the movie.
I have a 4gb folder of screencaps from movies. I don't consult it super often but it's useful when I do.

Made a study of this.

Miniature looks misleading.
>>3041500
What's that supposed to mean?
>>3041502
Means that miniature looks like fully fledged painting.
Once you open it you can see its just some generic shapes.
Good composition tho.

Lol ty. Yeah I used some custom brushes I made by taking some cool grunge textures and putting them into cutout to try to get that Alberto Mielgo feel.
