What is best to choose - commissions or webcomics for making money online, i managed to find a job that will allow me 8+ hr of free time do draw, i wish to polish my art into a real skill. I like the idea of making webcomics but i don't know if it's worth it.

Commissions. 95% of webcomics are just ignored.
Also this would depend on your skill level with art/.
>>3035946
commissions that aren't porn are ignored too
>>3035964
so i must get good at porn then
>>3035964
You're fucking retarded if you think that's true.
where do you get comissions?
>>3035964
I got bad news for ya mate
There are people making 100x more than most porn artists and they never have to draw so much as a nipple
>>3035975
Read the sticky son, I swear you people. Any time you frequent a board more than a couple times a week you should just favorite the sticky and check it if you have a question. Almost always the answer is there.

Making money off commissions is far easier than monetizing a webcomic. It takes years of work to get enough traffic and readers to even make a small bit of money off webcomics.
If you're in it for the money stay away from webcomics.
>>3036021
do you have any personal experience with it?
I think a very easy way to get a massive amount of followers is being able to get featured on line webtoon. I was able to do this by posting on a weekly basis on time. However you have to follow a certain niche to make money: A girl protagonist/attractive male protagonist, a love triangle or more, drama, the protagonist always gets their way in the end, and humour. I would suggest linking your patreon right away at the end of each comic. However honestly deadlines are just awful in general. You must have a webcomic that is colored, and it has to have a good number of panels, so I would suggest working far ahead to relieve stress.

Is there a way to make art for a living while retaining an ounce of dignity
>>3036109
it's like having sex for a living
except you're not even having sex
>>3036109
Not really, even if you are very very good you tend to slip through the cracks. If you are one of those people I'd suggest artstation, if not I'm sorry.
>>3036103
how do they feature the comics is it based on how popular/many views the series have or it just a lottery
>>3036125
It's a mixture of popularity and how frequently you post, but also luck I guess but honestly not really. Again if you follow the formula, its extremely easy to get popular.
>>3036125
Samefag but I want to clarify how little effort you need to do to make money on line webtoon. This comic artist already has 250000 followers and theyve only started Being featured March of this year. The art is shit but it has a plain female protagonist, two hot male leads, love triangle, drama, and shitty humor.

>that sidemouth
I'm so fucking triggered rn
>>3036149
Don't want to really disclose that information so I will be vague, within a few months. When I mean few I mean very small amount of time.

>This comic artist already has 250000 followers and theyve only started Being featured March of this year.
How is that even possible? There probably aren't 250000 individual people browsing that obscure site to begin with.

https://www.similarweb.com/website/webtoons.com What are you talking about? I'm sure you've seen this guy around at least. Naver owns this website and it's like the Google of South Korea. I don't know if you are trolling or are new to webcomic community.

It's a mobile app too, and that is the way the comics are meant to be read. The vertical format, is very easy to scroll through on mobile, and that's why I've really been getting into webtoons. So a lot of those followers are mobile users.
Anyway, I've never created a Webtoon, but I read a lot of them. And I can confirm, that as long as you have good storytelling skills (plotwise, or character wise), follow the rules in your genre/sub-genre (you will notice all the comics in a genre will follow certain story beats despite being different from the others, just like in books), and have average art skills, you have a chance to do well.
I like comics like >>3036138, and can confirm that they're not bullshitting about those numbers. I also read a lot of romance novels, and shoujo/josei, and romance readers are voracious, always hungry for more.
There are other sites like Tapastoon to get paid, but I hate the format on that one, so I don't know much about it. And then there are sites that you can submit work to in hopes that they take you in like Lezhin (Killing and Stalking goes through this site). Though the overall quality story wise and especially art wise, is high on sites like these, because there is a gate keeper you have to get through.

Ah so you where like me. I remember when I was a teenager and I was always searching for the same story format on mangaupdates (for example I was into girls crossdressing as men and going undercover at all boys schools (very embarrassing I know)) So I understood completely why people would read the same story over and over. I read literally so much shojou/smut in general that I got the idea of what formula can make a hit. Also you talking about tapastic reminds me (it's called tapis now for some reason) so to anyone that's reading this and interested in making a comic in general; Tapastic is a great site to go on, it has a great community. You can make your comics subscription based as well as have people tip you. I would suggest you post your comic on both tapastic and line webtoon before it gets featured to increase the chance of revenue.
>>3036339
Yup, that's just like me. I do read other genres too, but romance is just my favorite. Although as I've gotten older, I've noticed that I prefer more mature versions of the same old shit. And you made me realize that I mean Tappy Toons, not Tapas. I always get the two mixed up. But you are right about Tapas.
>>3036323
>people would read the same story over and over.
so y'all be saying that if i just took the basic story and slap some characters in a different dress people will eat my shit?
>>3036492
Once you read enough, you will realize that any story that fits within a genre, is just a basic story with extra things added to it. So yes, technically you can. The thing that separates stories that are similar, is the way that the story is told. It's why you can give everyone the same writing prompt and they'll come out with different stories.

Yes but it's much easier to do for comics that are targeted towards teenage girls. It will not work so well with action oriented ones as there is a far larger pool to do it in. (Unless you throw in some hot guys or alot of fanservice, however again too much competition))
