Why is not drawing from the head so difficult?

cause you don't do it often

drawing from torso and hips would probably be easier if it was taught first

people naturally draw head first cause they hold the most interest - this last sentence was unneeded because ur human and already know it

I think it's actually harder to draw from the head. Starting with the torso or legs lets you get a feel for the weight and balance of the figure, whereas the head doesn't give you much of that. That's just me, though.

Also, if you're drawing something where there is something really close/up front. Like if you're drawing a guy throwing a punch sometimes it's easier to start with the arm and the punch in the foreground and work back a bit.

I'm a convert to drawing torso first. It has many advantages, and isn't more difficult to do. It just takes slightly longer for the drawing to develop into something recognizable and appealing, because you're used to looking at the face first to judge the quality of a drawing.

The statistics are bs, but it's save to say that the propability of having someone on this image board who is better at drawing figures than somr guy who spend half a century doing it is incredibly low.
There might be a few artists on /ic/ who are better than Villpu in other areas of art, no doubt, but in drawing the human figure? I'd have to see anyone like that yet.

its an inverse/forward kinematics problem. same reason its easier to think of moving the arm by moving the hand -> forearm -> upper arm (whatever its called) -> shoulder -> torso instead of the other way around. we think of movements based on where we want the part to go, rather than what joints need to be moved to get it there. the position of the body relative to the hands, feet and head is just a means to an end.

I mean if the head is culled and you are not making any under-sketches, then not drawing from the head is quite advantages. Something I always like saying is that overspecialization is death.
