They have no eyes you dumbo.
>>
>>3030986

Draw eyes and then show how they are recessed into the face by suggesting the bridge of the nose and the eyebrows

t. someone who has been drawing for 5 months and still has no idea what the heck is going on
>>
Begin with drawing the faces from the front, not at difficult angles. You need to get the basic placement down before rotating, don't pointlessly frustrate yourself.
>>
>>3030982
>>3030986
After you draw the eyes, erase part of an eye to draw the nose, draw the ears, erase them to draw the hair, and then vomit some paint all over it, you'll barely notice whatever mistake you think you are making.

Your mark-making is very sloppy, and you don't seem to have a clear understanding of the shapes you're drawing.

If you can't get primitives right, then construction won't do much for your drawing. It's like trying to draw a straight line with a crooked ruler.

yes it's as >>3032849 says you have no understanding of what it is you're not only drawing but doing to begin with, and i don't mean that in a "crush your dreams" or "cruel joke at your expense" kind of way. You simply don't understand how to think in 3D and then transfer that onto a 2D surface.

What you are doing here is essentially "symbol" drawing which boils down to "i'm drawing this line because i've seen that others draw this line and it looks good when they do it so i'll do it too." The cure for what ails you is

Not sure if serious but I've been looking up stuff from anime artists, then I try to break down heads with perspective, and also grind a bunch without reference in an attempt to internalize. In the beginning my proportions were shit but I kept tweaking with each head. Don't know if I'm doing it right

As someone a bit further along in the anime grind, I find doing close studies of an artist's work to be pretty informative. I don't mean trying to do an exact copy, but instead trying to glean the general idea behind each individual part of a drawing (studies of the eyes, lips, hair, etc. in isolation) and then doing some rough sketches of the whole thing, focusing on matching the proportions.

Also just general practice in making smooth, consistent lines, which can only come from time and muscle memory.

Kids should read Scholastic
Also if you don't read the sticky or get used to doing things you find annoying you will never progress in live and will end up a sad, lonely, shell of a person.
Mebe don't even try heads. do something easier. like squares.
After a week you can try circles.

514KB, 2160x3600px
It's really difficult redlining highly stylized drawings, probably impossible without just making a totally new drawing and I don't draw anime. Perspective is big, learn to draw in 3D and get your properties down. Anime is difficult when it comes to proportions so the rules are a lot different from real life but you need a foundation first.
>>
>>3035494
If you have to make this many caveats for a redline, maybe it's better to just not post it at all.
>>
>>3035495
Shows someone is taking an interest and is putting in effort with them instead of standing on the sidelines.
I also have no stipulations so I don't know what you're talking about because the only thing you said that made sense was to not post redlines.
>>
>>3035494
Are the eyes closer in your redline because you had the one-eye width space in mind?
>>
>>3035500
Something like that. The nose seems to be non existent in this which is fine, anime noses are seen all the time like that. Realistic proportions don't seem to work (big surprise).
>>
>>3035506
Maybe I'm wrong but the original still appears more accurate as far as the eye spacing is concerned

I don't like to talk about redlines, but if you can't see a big difference between your drawing and >>3035564 then you have a problem. In fact your drawing is technically weaker than the original drawing you're redlining, with poorer alignment, flat features, thoughtless line quality, and bad design.

That may not change the validity of your advice. But there's a great gulf between your theory and application.

Oh sweetie did nobody tell you that you have to study some fundamentals before diving into specific subject matter?
You construct your heads with tiny, wobbly lines and zero knowledge of perspective and you wonder why the heads turn out tiny, wobbly and with bad perspective.

A logical conclusion is to practice perspective and line confidence and THEN worry about drawing a head.

I think where you place the eyeline on your circle matters a great deal. Personally I've found if you put a line about 2/3 down the circle to mark the top of the eye, then halfway between that and the chin is the bottom of the nose. The more "moe" stylized the character the smaller the face is I find.
Probably not in any position to be giving advice though.

thank you.

OP and people like OP want to come around asking for advice, and when we point them to the sticky, they throw a fuss like a spoiled child. You don't get to have moderately decent skills in ANYTHING if you aren't willing to put in hours of effort amounting to both efforts drawing and efforts studying the prospects of approaching and cultivating your skills.

when folks tell you READ THE STICKY that isn't a cop out, or uninspired answer, it's literally people telling you, "Your art/skills are so flooded with issues that it would be akin to cut an entire lawn with a knife advising you in your current state." We point you to the Sticky OP because you legitimately suck. You are a legitimate beginner and your ego and arrogance clearly has never experienced the crushing blow s before that teach your humility and push you toward discipline.

>TL;DR OP quit being a brat and do what literally everyone in this thread should tell you which is go read the fuckin sticky ffs. Start with "MUH BORING" line fundamentals and learning to think and see things in 3D via drawing spheres, boxes, etc. Otherwise you're just wasting our time and yours.

The thing is people come here to get intuitive advice, if people wanted to listen to some guy talking technical stuff you could search a shitload of tutorials, videos and podcasts on the internet, people often do this to get some interactive response, more direct to their drawings, thats why saying ''hurr durr read sticky'' to every single person is not helpful, specially when we already are a slow board.
Working on proportions/perspective/anatomy/basic shapes can be applied to any artist in any work ever, thats why it isn't also a very insightful advice specially when people threw it out with sheer ignorance.
Sometimes people just need to listen what they already know from someone they know, sometimes even people on 4chan do the trick no need to act so smug over virtually nothing eventually the thread will die it out who even knows if anon is gonna make it or listen to our advices.

>>3035614
Finally OP, hope you the very best and keep practicing, for someone who never drew before your drawings have decent ideas to it, they just need to be refined.

shit this gave me a laugh. thank you Art Wimp

since you gave me a hearty laugh and i like you i'll make a basic map for you to level up. think of it as a quest list of sorts.

Begin with the sticky, it's a jumble of wtf info overload so here you go.

>(BORING BOAR SLAYING QUEST)
1) Start with learning gestures and line quality, and 3D forms like boxes etc.
2) head into learning proportions and foreshortening techniques with those 3D forms

>(Baby's First Fetch Quest)
1) start to study the human body. This means body proportions, and anatomy. Don't fall into perfectionism here, just take it at a comfortable pace. Study each piece of the human body. Give each part it's own spotlight in your quest.
2)Practice combinations of BOAR and FETCH

>(Your first Dragon Quest)
from here on the main objective points aren't easy to list, but it basically extends to whatever your own personal interests align with. Do you like landscapes? Learn them. Do you like to color? you should probably learn them anyways. Is perspective really fun for you to do? Learn forced perspectives. You get the point. If you can finish the beginner levels. you'll already be better than OP and like 60%-70% of /ic/ and tumblr and FA and DA.

you just have to keep... drawing.
>>
>>3035661
i would absolutely agree with you, if it were for an artist at your own level "never give up" Anon, because you are at a level in which you can focus on certain aspects to get better at because you have enough skill and knowledge of fundamentals to work with in order for someone to give you advice. True advice that will stick with you and register.

OP is not nearly in this boat. Hell he's not even in the fuckin' lake.

Using a whittling metaphor, you've got your stick and knife already, anon, and you've been whittling away at your stick for some time already. OP however, doesn't even have a stick yet. He's just got a knife and he knows how to make the knife cut things, but he has no idea how to make the knife carve things into shapes and into something of actual value.

In more jargon terms, OP is just another symbol drawing fag, and you're a decently skilled fag (if that is your drawing there). You have fundamental understandings. OP doesn't. So you can cut the sentimental "they just need intuitive advice" bullshit and hand holding, because it actively holds back people like OP. Someone at the skill level of OP doesn't need someone to hold their hand, they need to know THE VERY BASICS first, and that doesn't need hand holding that needs actual effort to pour into studying it. Because it's exactly as it's described. BASIC. If OP can't master or learn BASICS on their own without "intuitive advice" do you think they're going to learn the medium level things? Don't kid yourself-- because if they can't they won't ever make it; period.
OP needs to be spurred like a horse into pursuing actual knowledge because he quite clearly knows NOTHING except that dragging a pencil across a paper, similar to how other people drag their pencils, makes somewhat similar images. That's it.

Use a thicker lead or charcoal when sketching. It'll save you a lot of frustration. Thin lines are for finish/artists who have good control.

Your construction should be more fully realized. It doesn't need to be more complex, but it should be more or less completed shapes, with 3 sides if they're cubes. Drawing only a bunch of parallel lines that exist independently of each other isn't much help when judging relationships. Construction is supposed to compensate for weakness in that area until you can do it intuitively.

I'm not fighting, never was. I DO see a difference in the quality. I understand what happened. I never claimed to be better BUT, I'd rather learn from someone who isn't that great at art then an asshat who's infinitely better.

Yes I learned something. Was it constructive? Well, I can see how he changed my piece to his. Cleaner lines, solid form, solid shapes in the features.

Is this humiliating? No, because I've already taken an attitude towards humility although many of you misinterpreted my redline as a holier than thou move.
