Pixel thread,to clarify
oh well
>>3029721
I enjoyed it. Thanks for the links.
>>3030955
I was hoping these kinds of threads would make a comeback but i guess not
>>3029078
I'm too stupid to understand this, can someone explain it in a different way about what the ramps do?
>>3031055
what you're trying to get is a colored version of a greyscale. following color theory ie analogous & complementary. im bad at english sorry
At what resolution does it stop being pixel art?
>>3032075
The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind.
Aseprite updated today
Also Graphics gale became completely free on the 18th.
Looking forwards to messing around today to contribute to the thread
>>3033394
love the colours in this one!
>>3031370
>>3031368
such a gruelling process.. Although the result is great
>>3033769
>Graphics gale full is now free
never thought it would happen. today's now a good day.
>>3036687
Wowie, what sort of perspective is that?
I love it.
>>3037512
I've been checking some examples but I can't quite get how one works on it.
There's multiple layers, and multiple frames.
Do you do each layer on every frame, or do you finish a frame with every layer then move on.
Probably a very basic question but I have zero experience working on digital media.
https://youtu.be/jqTBNhNzmfA?t=2478
This is so interesting, she's using pixel art for commercial illustration but the process to get the digital image into a printed page ads so many things to the pixels
Sadly googling Loretta Jones leads me nowhere
>>3040019
love the palette
>>3037989
Wtf wrong video?
>>3042179
works fine for me.
Anon, did you ignore the timestamp?
OP from all the previous threads here. Life got in the way and I ended up putting my projects on hold and forgetting about this general, sorry.
>>3033769
>Also Graphics gale became completely free on the 18th.
That's great news, thanks.
>>3037989
Badass, so little footage of the dawn of pixel art
Criticism is welcome.
>>3045056
what are you trying to go for with the squares ?it makes it difficult to make out the shape of the sword.the colors look good though.
>>3045805
The squares are just part of a style I've been tinkering with recently.
does this look fine
>>3046395
yes, 7/10
>>3046395
the hair needs some cleaning up
>>3046395
is that schierke?
>>3041955
is this the icon of decrypt9?
>>3031055
really late but here's my take:
You have your hue slider with all sorts of blues, light blue, normal, dark blue, and then it turns into purple. Purple is also a shade of red, so the ramp starts a new hue slider from that purple and transitions to red. It's basically a road which two hue charts meet.

latest aseprite version for anyone too lazy to compile
>>3048278
poor edit but try to make the curves of the hair less sharp and clean up unnecessary pixels
Wow, these are all really good. I only started doing pixel art in march (Didn't do any other art form before that aside from video editing if you consider that art) but could you more experienced peoples give me some tips? I am willing to accept critiques as well obviously.
>>3052301
This is one of my pieces of art btw, didn't know if that was clear or not
>>3050907
thanks bud, I'll be sure to implement that
>>3029075
Does pixel art have set color palette? I mean do you have to use only 365 colours or something?
>>3054586
You're supposed to use a limited palette .Though the number exactly before it stops counting as pixel art is negotiable.
I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
Where do I learn to make good pixel art? I am just starting out trying to make 32x32 sprites of anime girls with limited colors
>>3056857
>>3056858
There we go.
Criticism welcome, I need to learn more.
>>3056970
You have no concept of forms or perspective and drawing more lineart won't help you with that.
Do studies of actual cows and human bodies, and how light interacts with them, and you'll see just how flat your is.
>>3056994
drawing more pixel art*, whoops.
>>3056857
there are resources in the OP.you should try to use a color other than solid black for lineart
>>3057014
Not that anon but I don't see a problem with using solid black in that palette.
>>3056996
>>3056994
Thanks. I'm just starting out and I've always planned this to be remade sometime in the future. The odd proportions were intentional as I wanted it to look as grotesque as possible.
Tried to fix the shading and experimented with some colors here, as well as some more neutral lighting.
>>3057019
anime sprites tend to to be more vibrant that's why i advised against the black lineart
>>3057063
something something pillow shading
A little study I'm doing, here's the wooden planks part. Not really sure if I got the linework matched to the sphere's curvature.
>>3057469
I find that a good solution is to do your lineart in black as guideline initially and then (if your program has it) use the color replace feature to replace the black with the most dominant color of the sprite but with far more saturation and darkness, but not full saturation generally.
have a thing that i'm going to animate after i fuck around with the background (not sure if i should just 100% use the original photo)
I'm slowly learning how to do some pixel art, it's a lot harder than it looks
First animation. Feedback appreciated!
>>3058002
>:O
were you trying to mimic the dark souls basilisks
>>3057604
How about this?
>>3058146
Forgot to add that it's a wip
>>>3058002
I like the timing and poses, maybe try to shade with different hues as opposed to just darker shades of each color.
>>3057856
Looks great so far!
>3045056
Finished this. Criticism is welcome.
>>3058146
Stop posting this. For the love of god stop posting this
>>3058332
Okay, okay, I'm sorry.
Completely new to pixel art. CC?
Trying to make San from Mononoke. Still WIP! But can you guys spot any major flaws? I'm very much new to this.
>>3058618
is this yours?
remember to always save as png/gif
>>3052301
More texture in the dirt and tree, use single pixels for stars, and look into the tutorial about palettes because the colours don't mix well. Other than that you've got a good base to start working on more pixel art
>>3057821
There could be a little bit more contrast between each plank, but the curvature looks fine, good job!
i am a beginner a this, any tip?
>>3058821
>>3058822
>>3029075
Why is pixel art a dying trend? What's hot now?
>>3059039
because people view it as inferior to other art forms
>>3059039
I don't think it is dying. It's not used in vidya anymore because computers and consoles moved beyond those restrictions, but its use in indie games, music videos, and print media is growing if anything
>>3058938
ok, thanks for the advice m8
Sorry for the out of order dates on the collage, but how can I improve?
>>3052301
Like >>3058724 said, you're off to a good start. Definitely focus on colors, as the ones you used in that pic don't seem to have much variation in saturation/brightness. Giving the clouds some texture and a more recognizable shape will help as well. Good luck, anon!
>>3058821
>>3058822
Looks good
>>3058572
Very simple, challenge yourself with something more elaborated
>>3059819
How to be like you??
>>3059819
Incredible.

>>3037989
Same lady: http://www.laurettajones.com
She doesn't do that type of art anymore, but in 1985 she made this MAD program: http://meatfighter.com/mad/
>>3060459
Damn I would've hit that in her prime
>>3058572
too much dithering ,unclear source of light
http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299
>>3060640
his light source is directly above (slightly to the left)
I agree the dithering is too intense though, the right angles destroy the shape of the sphere and the upper left has a lot of banding and jaggies.
>>3060459
>http://www.laurettajones.com
her botanical art is pretty legit tho
>>3059447
back again
>>3058002
hehe nice
i come back with this little boy
>>3062559
... and he die
>>3062559
Really simple, but pretty cute desu. I wanna see its birth.
>>3059447
i love you style.
is so cute
hey guys im making a reskin of a character of the game Darkest Dungeon, DD has a certain style that im trying to copy but i cant seem to do it. what brush settings or whatever do i use
below is what i have done until now
>>3062656
and this is what the textures should look like
>>3062374
Hey thanks!
>>3058304
Hm. Yes! I'm going to experiment with shading in different hues. Thank you.
Finished up the mononoke thingie. Now breathing!
Original size
>>3062656
more shadow
and also rimlights
but the shadows are the important bit. establish the light source and shade based on that
today I drew this
>>3060459
Is very disappointing she moved away from pixel art
>>3063329
looks breddy gud
Did this awhile back. Will continue to expand this and add more AA once I get the time to do so.
Well.... maybe when I'm done with some other responsibilities.
Shitty beginner here. I have to learn alot especially to feel form and anatomy. Is it better to do it with drawing or can I do it with pixels? Thing is I'm really into pixel art.
>>3067471
Thanks! for the left guy, It's pretty much a robin hood reference for an archer gonna see how I can animate this stuff soon.
Some really good shit here, decided to share a game I'm working on.
>>3069094
Little busy but fresh as heck. Reminds me of GBC games like Survival Kids and Link's Awakening.
>>3067549
Do both. Will be easier and quicker to learn fundamentals with drawing (except maybe color theory)
>>3069136
I absolutely love Survival Kids, glad to see someone actually knows what it is. Oh and this is just a mockup with some items/enemies I've been drawing, the actual game looks like this
>>3069164
> that aesthetic.
Man this is reminding me goof troop on the SNES. good luck with it!
>>3069164
Very nice anon.
>>3069164
this is great man. probably a bit too early, but eventually put together a decent demo or gameplay video and get that sucker kickstarted.
>>3058821
i really dont know how to make caracters but well, here i go...
hey, anyone wanna make a game? i have an idea about a action platformer, but im just beginner at pixelart
I wanted to give animating in this style a try. Criticism is welcome.
>>3069901
>i cant draw so i'll just come up with ~a style~
>>3069908
Post work
hey /ic/ look what i made
it's a Boogie-man!
>>3069908
Post work
>>3069164
This is looking great so far.
The palette looks vibrant & lively. I especially like your use of purple to outline water in pools.
My only criticism is the ocean looks a bit flat compared to the other assets, but I'm sure that's already something you were planning to address.
>>3070247
Thanks! And it is, I still have to animate the ocean in the tilemap.
>>3069962
what does he do?
>>3070769
he boogies around!
>>3070769
burns crosses mostly
>>3069901
Very wicked, I like it but I imagine it'll be a pain to do it o hardware
Garry Baseman. My love

when your skill isn't enough to do justice to the size.
Shilling my gallery :
https://khaled482.tumblr.com/
>>3071787
The thumbnail lacks contrast, I'd make the house a little darker. Otherwise, very nice pixel placement and palette.
Idle animations I'm working on
>>3069164
My only critique is that you've drawn the palm trees from essentially a straight-on perspective rather than top-down
>>3072088
Also I'd like some critique if possible before I do the damaged variations cause that's gonna be a lot more work.
