Kinda hard to explain I think but it all boils down to understanding of your parents on why they do something against your decisions.

When I was younger, they are hellbent on not letting me pursue art and I rebelled back in those days. I actually didn't go to college so I can self study art.

After some time, I decided to apply for a job, any job would that would accept highschool graduates for that matter, so I can get out of the house before I incur the disapointment of my parents and started living independently.

I lost contact with my parents for quite a while and when I was about to get married I decided to break the ice and talk to them for a long time.

When I came back to my hometown, I told them that I was accepted on working in a local studio where I work as an assistant and I'm doing part time call center work during the night.

Dur They just smiled and told me i'm growing up and started being responsible for myself and we had a nostalgic talk on how i'm a retarded brat when I'm there and I'm talking to them about my ordeal when I am working.

To my surprise, they hid all of my drawings and stored them neatly for several years. It kinda made me choke when I saw soem of my shitty art framed and hanged on the wall.

It was an emotional reunion and somehow, I understood why they didn't want me to do something that they don't know how to make money from and they're scared of the prospect of me being homeless when they're gone or something like that.

If by making money on commission is by term of "making it", then earning the first years of doing art is piss easy. The only issue that I think I have is how to actually maintain it live a comfortable life as time goes by.

The only thing that sprung into my mind is to find some other trades that you can study on the side that you can earn money from too. Have a bit of entrepreneurial mindset and find several ways to earn money from your stuff like either licensing or making your own store.

There are alot of platform for it now that you can dabble on.

I think the business side of art is one of the hardest thing you can master as you go on. Every year there are younger and more skillfull budding artist than you, that's a fact you need to battle on as you go by.
