for me warming up is just looking at some reference or previous art pieces that I did. Usually gets me in the right mindset.

i draw my unmade bed as a warm up. its different every morning and gets you in the zone

I would be careful of values there, you are jumping to very extreme contrasts in areas. There's also a lot of messy hard brushstrokes and shapes. Try to control everything. Use ref if you need to.

it's not just the details in the hair (which would definitely bring up the draw time), it's the atmosphere, the varying colors and effects. The thought to make the blue part kinda ripple off. This piece just doesn't give off the appearance of something that was made super quickly. It might have started as a warm up, but became something more as he went on with it.

Problem is he still named it warm up which gives off the impression of ay lmao ez pz did it in 10 mins, which is bullshit.

I have 30000 favorites on deviant art. I know art, and I know what quickly drawn art looks like, regardless of how good the guy drawing it is. You can tell by the strokes.

If you're just doing this to rustle my jimmies, i'd say you're doing a pretty good job.

Don't misunderstand, i'm not talking about just any credentials. I'm talking about credentials of judging whether or not this image was a quick warmup. My 30000 favorites - including some of which were speed drawings - would be just fine as credentials in this regard.

If I look at your wip, I can tell it's just a wip sketch because it just looks like one. The strokes are long, it's sometimes ridgid or spikey, thick and not overly precise, things aren't blended, nor is there really much of an atmosphere yet, and it's overall sketchy. Btw you might want to widen the chest, it's looking a bit small.
I can tell the guys "warmup" isn't a warmup, because the lines aren't long, they aren't rigid at all, it isn't spikey, it's usually not thick, and has some precision, blending, and atmosphere. All of these things are signs of time and effort being poured into the work, even if you notice the somewhat sketchiness of it. I'm not saying it's a 100% nonsketchy and fully complete work, i'm saying it's not a warmup-tier work, but something above that; a good sketch.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that if it were just the face alone, judging by the type of strokes and overall sketchiness of the lines it could have been a warmup, but the details in the hair, and other things I already talked about is convincing enough evidence for me to believe it's not.

Also I just so happen to be knowledgeable in philosophy and apologetics, in particular of arguments for design in the universe. It's funny because they actually sort of apply to this situation, except instead of "intelligent design" it's "effort in art".
