Things that are farther away get smaller.
In pic related you can see the distance from the eye to the top, middle and bottom of this plane.
As you can see when you are closer to the object it gets more distorted.
That is because the distance from the eye to the top and bottom is much longer relative to the middle the closer you get to the plane.

try without grid sometime, i draw freehand and its nice to have it in the head, much faster aswell
