It's outrageous how artists sell they art for such low prices. People like this destroy the business of art...
Example: http://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/christina-glaser-3838/artwork
>>
>>3003256
You determine your own prices as a fine artist. If you price high someone will eventually buy it if you can back the work up with either praise or skill. (Just gain some reviews, expose in galleries, etc)

My guess is that the person is either making am earning on the side or teaching art. And 120 is a fair price for her skill level.
>>
>>3003265
But still, most Artists sell they art for 30$(average price) on this side. The better quality pictures will never sell, because there are plently other artworks with lesser skillinput, but it fits want the costumer wants.
>>
>>3003276
don't cater to casual buyers then

>It's outrageous how artists sell they art for such low prices. People like this destroy the business of art...

Think that's bad. Check the the drawthread on /a/, /d/, /v/, /co/, /aco/, There are people who give away their art for free

Is this Reiq?
>>
>Mfw when I'm never gonna make it
>>
Those are pretty low qual works though.
I wouldn't pay those prices.
>>
>>3003365
The craziest thing is that someone bought that painting. Like her nature art is pretty decent but this is just garbage.
>>
>>3003256
Dude. Seriously. She's a middle aged woman "selling" pretty generic and crappy art. Her prices are reasonable to the crowd she's selling to, other middle aged women. She probably makes a couple of sales a month, tops.

She's of no threat to serious artists. There's TONS of women like her out there, who get divorced, live off child support, and become "artists", selling shit like hers. Go to any farmers market or craft faire, and there will be a whole crowd of women like her, selling their shitty art.

When she's hanging in a reputable gallery, selling pieces for $1200, instead of $120, then worry. (Never going to happen)

Worry about your own art. She's of no threat to you at all, in any way.
>>
>>3003276
Most painters who sell independantly, with any skill, sell according to size, and usually start around $300 for oils. You MIGHT get medium grade watercolors, on the small side, for $30, from good artists.
>>
>>3003328
Their skill level usually doesn't justify selling, though. Sure, there is the occasional deluded fool who draws like a child and wants money for it, and the even more occasional guy who could go pro and make a buck but decides to do it for free, either because he doesn't want money or wants the free advertising. But most are doing it for the practice or at hobbyists.

stop preaching the choir and go tell faggots to stop doing shit for free
>>
>the kraken paintings
i dont know why but they make me smile
>>
I see some works for 120 bucks. If thats cheap I can sell you my shit for 100, so you can resell it at the correct value. I would even let you put your name on it. It will be like Big Eyes only with greasy neckbeards instead of QT Amy.

Not jk. Im much better than that old woman.
>>
>>3003256

Did you even look at the size of the paintings? 8X10s and 12X16's, not that large and certainly not that well crafted. I can tell you that these probably took no longer than 3-4 hours to make and probably heavily referenced, not much skill or time was put into it and that's why they are so cheap. When you think about it her average is like 20-25 dollars an hour minus materials if she sells these things so well so I really don't see the issue here.
Present an artist like this with a 48 by 60 inch canvas and oil/acrylic paint not made by crayola and watch them fall over themselves.

I don't care. I earn enough in my real job. Art is just a hobby.

You know, graphic designers can sell logo for $30. They can also sell logo for $30 000.

Similar stuff applies to artists. There's plenty of guys who scrap the bottom of the barrel and "never make it". There are people who are working for studios and making decent money and there are people who earn a fuckton. I am not even talking about fine artists or Sakimichan, but a guy like Mark Carder who can call $70 000 for single full length oil portrait. He is also an enterpreneur though, he has his own company that makes oil paint and similar stuff.

What I want to say - focus on getting good. If you will be good, then you will have opportunity to earn good. Learning about marketing and bussiness side of art helps when you are stuck at intermediate price range.
>>
>>3003965
By your logic any small sized paintings(acryl, oil etc.) should by low priced, which is stupid. Not everybody have the ressource & space to paint on 48 x 60 canvas. People should stop selling they paintings for 1$ or throwing them for free away.

I know for a fact Xerox spent millions developing this version of their logo. My dad worked for them, high up. A lot of it was for consultants and test marketing.

I worked with the agency that works with companies like Coke, for their logos. They sign million dollar contracts.

Just for some perspective purposes. I've designed logos for bands for $1500-2500 for a buyout and transfer of copyright. Those days are sadly over. I designed logos for small to medium companies for the same prices, and then did them for a company I worked for, for consumer products, for $40 an hour.
>>
>>3003256
>>Why won't more people commission me?

If you were that desperate for money then why didn't you say so anon?

Besides, the artist is doing something they enjoy without negatively affecting you. How is that bad for you?
>>
I paint better than her (nothing really hard when you use ref) and i'm surprised that she can sell as such a high price. Maybe I should consider to sell my stuff.
