Getting back into art, what program is good? I used to use good ol' Photoshop 7 back in the day but apparently that shit is an ancient relic now

I purchased Paint Tool SAI as an absolute beginner and I've gotten so comfortable and grew myself into it so much I have difficulty imagining myself using any other program.

I'm sure SAI looks like an ancient relic compared to some of these other programs out now like Krita and Firealpaca but It's still so good for how minimal it is.

Also Photoshop ages really well. I don't think you would have any problems painting in PS7. Save your money unless you really want cutting edge.
>>
depends what you want to draw
are you an absoulute beginner?
Get SAI, it has an easy to use UI and it can help you produce some good shit even when you get better

...
Actually just get SAI, CSP, or PS the rest are pretty lame imo
>>
I still use 7.0. It'snot a memory hog like CS or some of the newer versions, plus you don't have to rely on the online version when 7.0 is good.

Sai's alright, and if you can find it online, grab it. It's a fancier version of Photoshop 7.0.

what OS are you using? ever since I upgraded to Win10, PS7 just crashes all the time. I just assume because it's such an old piece of shit that my OS doesnt know what to do with it
>>

I started with photoshop back in about 2004 when I first tried the digital medium, but I never got really good with it. Then I used SAI for a few years and I feel like I much, much better, then I kinda outgrew SAI (I wouldnt touch it again with a ten foot pole, personally) and pirated the latest photoshop, CS5 at the time. Now I use both Photoshop CS6 and Krita at the same time, depending on how I feel.
I honestly have no idea how anyone can use FireAlpaca, it felt somewhere between Gimp and SAI and didn't really do enough that either are good for to warrant ever using.

I would say Photoshop and Krita are up at the top as far as powerful tools go. Krita is free but finnicky as shit, but it's also by far your best option if you're on Linux.
If you need something simpler, I'd stick with SAI.

>photoshop ages really well
It really does, holy shit
Adobe has barely done anything to make it better in YEARS, all they've done is change their obscene pricetag into a subscription model to fool people into thinking that they're paying less.
Even the infamous jitterbug isn't fixed yet, some random programmer made a 3rd party tool that had to do adobe's job for them.

CS6 is what... 5 years old now? And is still the definitive version of the program, although you can get a copy of 7 or CS and it'll still do wonders. Adobe was making quality shit back in the 00's and late 90's, shame I never had enough income to buy their products before they went over to their shitty subscription model.

Windows 10. I'm running it on a Dell Inspiron with 8GB or RAM. Runs pretty good with the occasional glitch here and there, but nothing too harsh.

I also have my desktop at home, still running on Windows XP with 2GB or RAM. The one at home runs pretty good, also.

"That error is an almost 100% guarantee that Photoshop's settings are corrupt.

Hold down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT as you click the Photoshop shortcut and it will start with new default settings." - found that on Google, maybe that's why your PS7 is crashing on Windows 10.

Just a hunch. Hope you get it to work.

Photoshop isn't about bells and whistles anymore. They hit the wall for new features years ago.

Photoshop also isn't made for you - its a professional tool. People like me rely on it, for reasons you wouldn't understand. I've rarely paid for it, as my jobs have provided the license.

Photoshop is an image editor, that's focused primarily on photo and scan editing and cleanup and adjustment, and also has creative tools like painting, and 3D.

The more PS stays the same, the better, because those of us who get paid to use it, need it solid and reliable in a production environment, not changing every 6 months for attention deficit autists who use it to draw porn.

thanks for the tip, i'm trying out CS6 but if it's shit i'll go back to 7 with what you mentioned
>>
>>3001037
Not him, but you kind of missed the point. You could've easily ended your post on the first point because that's the only relevant thing you've said.

Nice 'holier than thou' attitude you have, though.

i don't know what you do but whatever you contribute to society can't be better than hentai. Be honest with yourself

There's a lot of perfectly good drawing programs on the market. Paint Tool, Krita, one of my favorites is SketchBook Pro from Autodesk - used to be a free version, don't know if they still offer it. Edit: they do - and the full version is only $30. It's a fucking great sketch app.

Photoshop is far from being an "ancient relic" - it's an industry standard tool now, like Excel. If you can afford it, and put the effort into learning it, it's the most powerful tool out there. For basic painting, it's somewhat overkill. One of the best painting specific apps is Painter. I've been looking at Rebelle 2, for watercolor type work. Seems to be a really good app. ArtRage is also very popular.

>>
>>3001048
I make 92k a year, asswipe, with my "worthless" degree.

How many hundreds of dollars a year do you make with your little pornos?

Hmmm?

And, dummy? My job pays for Photoshop. I said that in my post. My jobs pays for the full Creative Suite, and since you can install the license on two computers, I use one at work, and one at home, and my boss doesn't give a fuck.

But you keep thinking you have it all figured out. It's adorable.

> Relies on AMAZON Customers

What's the matter, slants, you can't get REAL world customers, you have to rely on AMAZON to get your clients for you? lelz
>>
>>3001052
Very, very angry!
>>
>>3001053
92k, that's it? That's all you get?

Where the fuck do you work, Mexico?
>>
>>3001053
How much of that 92k are you using to pay back that worthless degree, squints? lol
>>
Aside from the dark UI, are there any significant differences between CS5 and CS6?

Significant as in for example, CS5 introducing the mixer brush and those tablet pressure overriding settings (can't remember if CS4 had that)
>>
>>3001057
LOL.

Hey, you tried. Have fun saving your pennies for your next tablet, autist.
>>
>>3001059
Who said I had loans? I went to a state university and paid my own way with no loans, working full time.

But it's okay, sweetie, you tried.
>>
>>3001053
For somebody who (>implying) makes 92k, you are more insecure than a fat teenage girl.

It's a Indonesian shitposting board, you don't have to prove yourself to anyone f a m
>>
>>3001060
I'll be honest, I upgraded just because of the darker UI. It's way easier on the eyes when working at home and I can't believe it wasn't a feature for longer.
>>
>>3001063
OOoooh, got a bad-ass here. Flying J here went to a STATE university! I'm shaking in my boots, f a m, I bet your worthless ass is working at a fucking KINKOS or some LAME ASS advertising agency for some bullshit town making promos for their fucking hockey team. Or, better still, you're some washed up 30-something bitch who's got nothing on the horizon but WORK tomorrow at your LAME ASS Kinkos. lol
>>
>>3001063
Stop lurking on 4chan and go to sleep, grandma. Your Kinko's shift starts at 5 am working that Creative Suite on your work station. What manager's dick did you have to suck to get that license to borrow at home?
>>
>>3001063
That's what I thought, bitch. All bark and no bite. Just like your worthless degree, your worthless job, your worthless comebacks and your worthless existence.
>>
this is some navy seals tier shitposting. good job /ic/
>>
>>3001063
Get owned, slants. Commit sepukku, shamefur dispray! lol
>>
But yea, Photoshop 7.0 is good. SAI is alright too if you can find it.
>>
>all these anti gd fags
Afraid drawing isn't just art for art's sake eh
>>
>>3001115
A little late to the party, fag. Show yourself out.
>>
I feel really comfortable with Photoshop but is the sub worth it? I feel like it's better for environment art
>>
>>3001037
You're right and I understand
