I bought it a while back.

I had a cracked version for a while and things just stopped working. It was just bugging out. That prompted me to get the most up to date version that has much less bugs.

I'd recommend picking it up if you can afford it. I even emailed with the creator a bit, asking some technical questions and requesting some features for the future. Dude hardly speaks English, but he seems really nice.

You need to know what you're doing, DD is helpful for perspective poses and such, having the ability to change angles on any pose is incredibly useful.

design doll is the rare case where the free version is 100% appropriate for doing the work.

Great software for posing too.

The controls are so much stiffer and slower that it hinders brainstorming, tho.
DesignDoll is a lot better for very fast explorations, but if you have already a very solid idea for the pose, I'd go with Daz

Also, the proportions, anatomy and lightning is definitely superior to DesignDoll

I agree about the stiffness.. Daz is great if you can plot out the general idea in 2D before going into 3D posing (something that every artist should be able to do IMO).

My workflow is usually:

Quick sketch in alchemy for design
Quick sketch in PS for pose/composition
Posed character in daz
Tweak in zbrush to mach design
Paint details/rendering in PS
