Has anyone else been in an art competition with someone, only for you to be pushed and shoved aside?

Shit hurts and i feel hopeless. And i tried pulling all nighters just drawing to make myself feel better, but that just made me more upset.

>be me. Draw a certain niche or fetish of anime girls. Not too good, but pretty much have a monopoly
>Some other artist comes along who draws the same thing.
>We talk briefly. I can tell he doesnt really take my art seriously (cause im not that good anywho. Not that i dont read the loomis and bridgman still)
>art level was sort of pic related
>A week goes by
>All my followers start flocking to the newcomer.
>Write a blog post of my spaghetti spilling, being upset, how i could never draw this niche again.
>no replies
>The newcomer's followers triple mine in a week
>left there with no one
>my whole art account was created for this niche, only for it to be stripped away

Im getting suicidal just writing this. I literally cant sleep at night because i wake up from the rage of losing everything. And ive been less healthy healthy; skipping my vitamins, so my hair is starting to fall out and my parents hate me at the same time.

Now i want to write a comic, and comic wriitng is hard.

Was it because you knew you could never be good enough? or did you just not care about photography enough to bother trying anymore?
>>
>>2992671
I was bashing my head against the wall and couldn't figure out why x y or z person was popular and me or any number of other people had no exposure and couldn't get any kind of foothold.

The thing that made me quit (aside from how ridiculously expensive it is, seriously 1 professional quality lens can cost as much as top of the line cintiq) is there's so many bad photographers that get really popular for no good reason other than they happen to take a snapshot that appeals to a bunch of plebs.

It's like how shadman is a terrible person and kind of sucks at drawing but he makes a living off drawing a hot meme or some r34 gaping it's asshole or blowing hitler or whatever.

Man, I wish I had some good advice like "well you should do art for yourself first of all" but struggling to gain an audience fucking blows no matter how you look at it.
>>
>>2992667

Don't be too hard on yourself. This happens all the time. You were basically first to market; the pawn to test the waters. Once people see that a fresh market is healthy you'll start seeing copycats/new faces out of the woodwork. If anything you should feel glad that your niche shows a demand.

And now all you need to do is keep drawing and beat this guy who can be considered a friendly rival. Get better at art and get more following than him/her.

thanks. But im personally burning off this niche. I hate hentai now pertty much.

Now its all about writing for me, if /ic/ has any tips in that.

>Write a blog post of my spaghetti spilling, being upset, how i could never draw this niche again.
This is where you fucked up. You should had anchored yourself to that artist to maintain your own popularity instead of blogging about your cession. No one respects a quitter, nor a sore loser. now you could either stop crying about it and work on fixing your brand or quit like a little bitch.

>>2992677
Those plebs are the niggas that ultimately are the gate keepers of relevancy so looking down on them is fucking stupid. what you should of did is reel them in with shit they liked and inject you flavor into it to give the illusion of originality.
>>
>>2992734
Nothing wrong with simple art to tell a story. Start with some characters
and get them to interact with each other. There's tones of 4koma that get popular, tons and tons of webomics, manga like Galko-chan, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, Nichijou, etc

Chris Onstad (Achewood) and Ryan North
(dinosaur comics) talk quite a bit on the subject of writing a comic and consider themselves primarily a writer inspired by writers if you want some perspective.

Out of personal curiosity I feel like I need to ask, what was the niche?

I was considering that. But forget it. It would be like a manlet working out to impress a girl whose into tall slim guys.

>>2992746
I dont want to say because then you could figure out my identity easily believe it or not. Lets just say, i can never look at hentai the same again.
>All girl yuri manga
Thats sort of the reason why my art failed. My competitor did all the moe yuri cliches there were, and the fans ate that shit up like it was chocolate. To me, I think doing all girl casts and drawing moe things like isis chan is crutch. I wanted to be adventerous and draw males and females in a collective humorous setting, like Clannad and what not. But. Its really fucking hard to do. I cant say mine is better because i feels its shit no one could connect with. But at the same time, im sick of yuri moe blobs like gabriel school dropout.

So, i rather hear words or be inspired by someone like Kazuma Kamachi.

>>2992667
A porn-site followers that fickle? I fav and share work of artists who are way better than me and do similar work than mine all the time and I never lose followers over that. Sounds like bullshit to me. Especially if it is as you say such an uncommon niché.
>>
>>2992758
You could take a spin on it, people really appreciate sincerity. You can start with archetypes but treat them like real people.
>>
>>2992653
I know how you're feeling. I had an art teacher who kept forcing me to join art contests in high school. I kept losing to my former best friend who became a nasty manipulative cunt. I remember I came home crying one day because of her, and my mom brought me a letter. Opened it up and it was a huge announcement that my ex friend had won another art competition we were both in. She was alway so nasty and mean to me but everyone else basically drooled all over her because she was a good artist and drew anime. Made me rage.
>>
>>2993758
I wish I had someone like that, this would really motivate me to pour all my time into art just to show that cunt who's boss.
>>
>>2993758
She probably just wanted her best friend who was into the same hobby to acknowledge her and have fun drawing together. But then her best friend became all bitter and angry at her and ended their friendship over something as pitiful as some stupid highschool art competition. What a sad story.

Yikes. You're way off. I didn't end our friendship over art. She was the one constantly laughing at me and putting down my art, while I supported her and paid her to draw my characters. I ended the friendship with her because like I said, she became a nasty cunt who bullied me all the time. But way to be an asshole, anon.
>>
>>2994427
ignore the cuck. They just dont understand the shame of being forgotten. The part where you talked about paying for comissions is really hitting a nerve with me, because i remember all the donations that other artist was recieving. It feels like utter shit.

A lot of people in this world lack the personality type of wanting to be accompolished. Not to sound like a hipster, but its true, most people just want to be followers and find one person they can praise as a god. ive seen it so many times in the art world.

Yeah, especially fun that I had paid her for a piece while we were still friends and it never got done because we stopped being friends. Never got my money back, either.

But yeah, it's best to just move on an stop hanging onto bad feelings. You won't improve as a person and artist that way.

You sound like an angsty deviantart 14 year old.

Stop wallowing in self pity. The world doesn't owe you anything, shit happens. Either take it personally and crack, or take things as they come and learn to work with what you have.

There's a lot I could say here but honestly your response to this situation is super over dramatic and unhealthy.
Making a whiney blog post about it was a stupid thing to do. Like the other anon said no one like whiners, it's also super unprofessional and immature. If anything that's the kind of shit that drives away followers.

I'd say delete any personal vents you have posted and stop doing that kind of thing. Post a lot and keep drawing and practicing or give up.

If you're too depressed to function then take a break from art for a month, get your shit sorted out and start taking care of yourself like a responsible adult.

and this is why I never share my work
not becasue im bad but im too good and i know ppl will get inspired to steal
only reveal yourself when youre master

Dunning Kruger. You can't become a master without facing criticism from people other than your mom.
>>
>>2994586
What the fuck? You paid to have your characters drawn? You stupid or something? They should be paying you licensing fees for using your creations. Is this Highschool in bizarro Earth #2?
>>
>>2996777
that really depends on who's supposed to own the end product
>>
I hate anime conventions because in the "art competition" you can use references and people start drawing an entire draw from his phone
>>
>>2996777
yeah, that's exactly how it works. Whenever you want to commission an artist to draw something for you, they have to pay YOU for the privilege of drawing your shitty OCs. Moron.
>>
>>2996790
Yeah that's what Stan Lee does for all his shitty self inserts
>>
>>2996792
Stan Lee is different because he's famous and the characters he has created are famous.

They actually have market value so there are companies willing to pay for the right to use them in merchandising and what not.

Nobody's going to pay for the right to use some random internet kid's fucking no-name OC.

where and how can you find an art rival to use as a mutual tool to push yourselves further?
