What type of perspective is this? How would I draw something like this with basic shapes

You exaggerate the shapes. Gesture. Study some animation.

One point

It's called a panty shot

is it really one point? I guess I'm just actually retarded

He used the VP mainly in the center of the planet.

If you're asking how many points, well, there's a vanishing point for every set of parallel lines rotated in a different angle, so probably around 50.
The artist freehanded it, that's what it is.
Thinking in terms of vanishing points is only useful when you have a lot of parallel lines going in the same direction, like when drawing houses, cities, room interiors, man-made vehicles etc.
If you deal with something more organic (like this piece), it's better to think in terms of x, y and z combined with intuition. Kinda what KJG does.

the simple shapes and forms are surprisingly prominent in this.
Pardon for the snipping tool+mouse work.
All I'm wondering is did he forget to color in one of the cat creatures, left of the main one that is creating a tangent with the explosion
There's not too much of converging lines going on, what makes you perceive depth is the diminishing size of the objects and overlapping of forms, very apparent in the foreshortened figure. The way it is arranged makes it seem like they are being sucked in or drifting from the center of the planet, you can imagine a triangle around the figures, pointing to the center. So it's like there are converging lines, but they are hinted at instead of drawn out.
The figure uses at least 2 pt though, you can see with her body diminishing towards the bottom left of the image, but her butt diminishing towards the bottom right.

I like to see others were interested in my comment and it was not a waste of time on my part
