I don't get why so many artists are using instagram now. Am I missing something here or is the only way to get noticed on instagram through tags? No one can feature your work or retweet it like on other art sites, so you can't ever get a huge bump in followers like on Tumblr, twitter or DA, right?

Regardless of what you post on instagram, if you put tags on it, it will probably get some amount of likes, I think it's easy to get addicted to that.

Isn't it annoying to you that you can't watch art in full resolution but only as a slightly larger thumbnail? That's probably the biggest issue I have with instagram. And yeah, I know you can view the images in full res if you go into the site source code, but 99% of people who look at your art will always only look at the tiny instagram default resolution. Kinda sucks for artists who do landscapes, environments or just zoomed out scenes in general.

Depending on what creative industry your in, there can be a lot of art directors on Instagram you can try and connect with. Once art directors start following you and liking your work, that's a good indication that you might be on their radar and you can try reaching out to them.

Art directors seem to mostly use Instagram & Twitter, so that's one reason Instagram is so popular. It's the place to be for visual artists.

You're missing something. There is a very popular app that can "regram" your posts, or people can just upload your work and link you in the description. It can and does happen, and when it's from a large account, you can get a big bump in followers.

I use Instagram all the time, and it is very easy to discover people. If a person's tags match your interests, they have a chance of showing up when you either browse in the search tab on mobile, or actually search a tag. I also discover people by clicking on suggested followers and seeing who other people follow. People will also repost art and tag/link the original artist. I can get lost on Instagram for a long time.

A bit too much of edgy "muh capitalism is bad" in terms of the subject matter but I like the image nonetheless. I think it could definitely use some darker shadowy areas though. At the moment it the areas with crosshatching all look like the same tonal value and certain details blend into each other making them hard to see (like the nest and the inside of the bird's sleeve). If you went over the areas that are supposed to be darkest a few more times to make them black it would look a lot better

Out of all the art sites, DA still can give you by far the biggest jumps in exposure if you're lucky thanks to their featured categories. So yeah, it definitely doesn't hurt having one. Just don't have any expectations or feel bad when you don't get much eyes on your work for a long time, because it really is mostly luck.

Yet I keep seeing that people praise simple and often very flawed drawings if they have an animoo face. Both statements apply to my own pictures too. It doesn't matter how strange the anatomy is. I fail to understand why an animoo face makes a picture a much less likely target of criticism, even if the author attempts to draw realistic bodies and/or fails at proportions or something else. Instagram is like an informal portfolio. It's a visual harem more than the other two which are text-based first and foremost. Who's to say your identities aren't separate on each platform either.
