On having a huge ego. I think it is a good thing in conjunction with self awareness. IMO, the optimal scenario is that your ego is big enough you can criticize yourself and accept criticism from others objectively without feeling discouraged.
It's those with a fraudulent, fragile little ego who cannot take criticism and improve themselves.
I believe having a big ego will consistently be advantageous as you progress through your career. You should believe that you are the ultimate - the conclusion of all the universe evolution to this point. And that you are gifted with the deepest insights into human nature and what it means to render light tied to human story. It's simply a matter of learning to make good art.
The important part is to never let your ego guide you into delusion. This is the fools folly. Any intelligent person will be so confident in themselves that they will quickly correct it and shit all over that misstep with pride. You should feel glee everytime you correct your path. You will need to do it every time you create and make creative choices.
When its all said and done, those who believe in themselves as having transcendent potential only achievable through work and self criticism will make it.
I'm inclined to agree with you, a mentally weak person that lies to their self and others cannot make it, without doing some serious self reflection and changing their behaviors.

>t. someone with a huge ego
The optimal scenario is having no ego.
I kinda have to agree. I find my lack of self worth, lack of self confidence to get in the way of actually drawing far too much - wasting time I could use to quell my lack of self confidence through practice and improvement.
A degree of ego would be handy.
