If you are a /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

I'm surprised there's no dedicated ergonomic digital painting control peripherals in place of a keyboard. Something with a couple touch rings for rotation and zoom, maybe a trackball or trackpad for panning, some logically grouped buttons for common operations, and some programmable hotkeys.

Or at least put more effort into the built-in controls on drawing tablets. It's so useless when they only put 5 or 6 buttons on there, easier to just keep your hand on the keyboard instead of shifting back and forth.

Work on your line quality. Flwoing lines, that aren't chicken scratches. The hand doesn't have dents in the outline like that. Forget shading for the moment - keep practicing so the drawing has ONE line per outline/surface/edge, not loose smudgy lines and jagged, broken lines.

The new Cintiq pro has one.

I have a Cintiq 24HD. The express keys and radial menus inside the apps I use are more than enough for what I need. If you spend the time to set them up for the commands you use the most, you don't need the keyboard - and I've been using Photoshop since version 2.5, and know the power of the keyboard for that app.

The new peripheral for the Cintiq Pro looks very interesting - it sounds exactly like what you're talking about.
>>
>>2975866
Handheld controller? That actually sounds like it'd be pretty nice, if you could fit enough buttons on there.

Not that I'll be able to afford a Cintiq any time soon.

>>
>>2975866
Looking further, it's sold seperately from the Cintiq, for $100. You can use it with the cintiqs, or Intuos. But the reviews say it's buggy - but - some people are claiming it'll work with other tablets, with the wacom drivers.

I'll keep an eye on this, I'm wondering if it'll work with mine, it would mean even more express buttons.

There's also a generic one, for other types of tablets, too...

Am reading trough "Figure drawing for All it's worth" and would love a bit of guidance, have been using an online pose generators and drew manikin after manikin but I'm not sure of when to start going to the next part (adding muscles and volume)

Should I just keep drawing the manikin till I can draw him accurately in any position? Or is it better idea to continue the book?

Just continue with the book. You can always go back to the manikin if you feel like you need to. You can also try adding anatomy ontop of all the manikin you drew.

You're shading and line-work are good enough, but you desperately need to work on your proportion.
Learn how much space things take.
Also, do at least some minor construction, I feel like you drew this portrait without it.
>>
>>2976052
Yeah, I'll try to work on that.
>>
>>2975861
Is this really necessary?

I feel like just pratice until you can feel the mass (3d form) of an object.
Chicken scratches and all.

Your "line" will improve with your understanding of the form. When your cofindent your lines will naturally become less scratchy.
>>
Trying to get better at anatomy, am I doing this right? My process is as follows:

1. Draw a human skeleton from reference.
2. Draw the skeleton from memory, compare to reference, draw it again.
3. Same, but with flesh on.
4. Once I start to understand the proportions and how things should look and connect, I look up poses and try to draw them starting from the skeleton.
>>
>>2975861
Got it. I didn't mean to make it look so scratchy, I was doing Dodson and was restating frequently. My fingers unfortunately do have some dents, I'll take a picture next time for reference.

should I erase lines then to get it to one line per outline/surface/edge? Because until now instead of erasing I just go over it with another line.

>>2975900
How do I add "perspective" or make it seem more realistic, shading and texturing?

>>2975987
Appreciate it but I have a long way to go. I can see my mistakes now and didn't bother posting my next hand. The one I do this afternoon I might.
>>
>>2976134
This will probably teach you to create technically accurate drawings, but you may have trouble making appealing drawings if you don't sprinkle some gesture studies in there too.

>>
>>2976134
Honestly, you don't need to draw everything from a skeleton.

Its a waste of time imo. You just need to get a BASIC understanding.
Do more form studies and gesture drawings. find different pictures of the figure in different angles and draw it until you can rotate it freely in your head.
Draw it until you feel the form.

Do large chunks first and add small details later.

Just draw a lot you'll learn where everything goes..Connects, bumps etc as you become more observant.
>>
>>2976159
it looks a bit off right now, moreso to do with the shape of the head in line form, and perhaps with how the mouth is placed. Keep going however, it's not awful and it will be good practice. Is there a ref?

If you want to "learn heads properly", would advice trying to learn realistic heads. There's no issue with going for the current heads (tho even then, you should do different angles) but you'll only ever get good at using similar heads, learning how to make realistic heads will make you good at using any head type.

1) Her nose is humongous. Its lower parts also slide a bit away from the central vertical line. Finally, the base of her nose isn't aligned horizontally with neither her mouth nor her chin. (I mean that the angle is different.)
2) Her eyes have different shape.
3) Mouth line might be too horizontal/straight for this angle, given that she's smiling.

my days consist of doing literally nothing and have been like that for many years now. im tired of consuming and want to create, i've always wanted to, but now that i'm trying i just get anxious despite it being the only way i want to spend my time. i can feel a physical pain in my chest and start to get a headache looking at anything at all i consider art and not being able to make anything myself.
even this brings that on. it's very depressing. even with this i sense a lot more perceptive skill than i could ever hope to achieve because i look at what little i can do or the way moving a pencil feels to me and i have little hope i could ever create something that feels natural.

Hard to put in to words when you're not drawing digital. At least, the pencil lines ought to not be so thick. Ignore this faggot:
>>2976643
>>
>>2976640
Start lifting so you can learn what progress and dedication are, then apply that mindset to drawing. You'll never get anywhere by being an anxious low-test twink.
>>
>>2976640
That's how it starts man. Everybody goes through that.

You're going to keep seeing artwork that's going to pain you for not being able to create things like that. You're going to get anxious about starting because you're seeing it as such a huge endeavor and you want to just skip the journey and get to the end right away. It is in fact very depressing to keep yourself in that cycle of inspiration and doubt.

But there is no right way to start drawing. There is no right time. The beginning stages are going to be extremely clumsy and slow. You're going to stagger a lot. But what other choice do you have? It's either you go through that, or you never learn ever.

The beginning will be rough, but you know what? If you diligently put in the effort, practice correctly, slowly taking step by step, you'll get better. Drawing will feel better, become even a little easier. You'll start to see progress which will give you a lot of confidence in yourself. You may even start to enjoy it and feel gratified.

Drawing is just like any other skill. It's just a matter of learning, practice, and effort. If you give yourself the time to consistently do that, you will improve. Just draw past that little voice in your head that's telling you all kinds of non-sense about not making it. Given time, you won't even have any doubt left, you'll just keep drawing because you know you can do it.
>>
>>2976364

>>2976455
Can't really call this much of a fundamental exercise if it is stylized so much. A lot of the expressions are weak on the faces because you haven't moved the cheeks upwards with the mouth's muscles. Also the nose isn't flared and one eyebrow is not correctly placed on the angry-face. The skull looks like it's from a chimpanzee because the forehead slopes dramatically. You should focus on keeping lighter values in your sketch style, a lot of it is too dark to make out any definition in the shapes because you've compressed most of the detail into the darker end. Was it also meant to be 3552x2000 large? Remember to resize your drawings.

I didn't draw today. This has been happening frequently lately. I think I'm losing interest. I was so fucking hyped four or so months ago, drew like 6 hours a day. Now it's barely three, sometimes. Sometimes it's less. And not every day.

Is this what it's like to grow up? Kids dream of being artists. Adults realize that it just cannot be.

And I dont think losing interest has anything to do with adult vs juvenile thing. I'm guessing you're just feeling the pressure of growing up. Stigma gives a lot of stress.
>>
>>2976751
I don't know why but your faces are just so unappealing, I saw a few people comment on it earlier but I have to admit it too.

The problem is that I can't quite put my finger on it, it might be from the quite large noses that you draw plus the eyes and mouth seem a little too wide as well.
>>
>>2976744
Don't force anything. Take a brake if you're not feeling it. I once took a several year pause because I lost my determination, but I came back. You can do that too, take some time and think why you really want to draw.
And if you think dreaming is kids stuff, you aren't done growing up.
>>
>>2976754
>comparing your art

With what, my old art? Sure, I'm better now than when I was like 12 years old drawing every once in a while in the back of my school notebooks, but I haven't seen any meaningful improvement in a very long time by now.

Those improvement threads make me legitimately depressed. People get so much better in the space of a year with a practice schedule not unlike my own, yet I'm stuck in the same spot I was two years ago.

It's an uphill battle, and I think I'm tiring of it.
>>

Look up some croquis that aren't super deformed for fashion/costume renderings and start tracing over them to get an understanding of the body. That's what I did for about a month before looking up photos of people for reference and eyeballing it. I'm still a little rough with no reference but I can tell a difference. Honestly, just practicing and maybe even looking at your own body helps.

If the head was tilted back then yes.
but in the picture the head is facing forward

we can see under the jaw and under the nose,
in the drawing we cannot see under the nostril
and we cannot see under the jawline

the perspective is not the same, so drawing the bangs in the same perspective as the photo will ruin the drawing

He's saying you moved the brow for a lower angle but drew everything else from straight on giving the microencephalitic look. This low/straight-on mixup also lead to misplaced ears that are too high. You went overboard with the eyes so the face looks stretched instead of seeing the sides of the head, and the same with the mouth which should be bounded approximately by the pupils. You also incorrectly placed the edge on the neck muscle, which should be on the inside.

Sketchbook Pro is a solid app. It has the basic toolset you'd need - and it's honestly one of the best on the market.

I've been designing logos professionally for decades. THE app you want to learn for that is Illustrator. It's the industry standard, and you really should learn vector if that's the kind of work you want to do. It's a got a steep learning curve, but there's nothing like it once you learn it.

how to draw things like trees, bushes or hair, things that have lots of details but has to be simplified because you see them from a distance?
>>
>>2977470
You improved, a bit, but may I ask why you're using human proportion in your stylized drawing?
>>
>>2977480
>you're using human proportion
What kind of mutants do you live around?
>>
>>2977470
Why are you choosing drawings that are so close together?

I know that you're excited to see results but you're not going to get noticeable differences in a matter of days, all that's happened here is you've drawn things in a slightly different way at the same skill level.

It takes months to see real improvement and that's only if you study and practice hard, keep a monthly log instead, it'll look better.
>>
>>2977489
Nah man, I meant that the eye goes over the eyeline. I should've worded it better
>>
>that moment when it finally clicks and you're starting to get a hang of drawing something you're bad at
Noses in my case. Feels pretty good man.
Please redline the face if you can.

Any advices on how i get better? I'd like to draw more "realistic" creatures.
>>
>>2977517
>>2977525
Stop symbol drawing and learn proper anatomy. You can start signing your work when it isn't shit.
>>
>>2977105
If i were you i'd draw it without the pixels. But if you are trying to draw it with the pixels, idk; i've never drawn nothing like that.
>>
>>2977513
H-how'd you do it, Anon?

How do i know the body measurements? Do you use a rule? Could you give me information about some books or pages i can borrow for get better?

Thanks. Also i remind you anon this is not a "Look at my fucking drawings, i'm a god" thread, it's a beginner thread. That's why i'm asking for advices.

Feel the form, or something. Personally I draw a centerlines along the front of the face, going over all the bumps of the face, along the nose. That's why there's a line down the forehead. It'll come to you eventually anon. I still can't figure out what I do wrong when I draw boxes, if that makes you feel better.

Also, please tell me what I do wrong with my boxes, someone.

Well, you've still got a long journey before you, as the nose that's on the face of that... uh... character looks like a pig's snout.

>>2977555
These faces on their bodies are horrifying.

>>2977547
Inverted perspective in some of them, namely the leftmost one, the one on top of it (maybe), the... ah, whatever, I'll just mark the edges that look bad with my nezumi.

Did you read Norling or Robertson? Oh, of course you didn't. Construct the perspective grid on another layer and see for yourself why those look wrong.

I couldn't help but reply.

What? Can you show me this perspective grid. I'm not the Anon that drew that.

Well, as long as it looks like 3d-ish pig snout, I feel like I've made some improvement. I understand what mean you mean by the boxes, too, I'll work on fixing how I draw them. Thank you.

That is the glorious Ducky Pocket.
Each key is can be a programmable macro. It functions as a number pad and it's also a calculator when unhooked from a pc.

...it's basically an RGB Calculator.

that's basically all there was to the reference i was using.
i'm not good enough to color and shade stuff and trying to do so would make me sad.

Construction is alright for the most part, but the pose is too stiff. Drawing a centerline should help or just practice some gesture drawing.
>>
>>2977657
One thing at a time.
>>
>>2977624
1) Pick a cube.
2) Choose a pair of parallel edges that have clearly defined ends.
3) Identify the direction of "going further from the viewer."
4) Using the line tool, draw long perfectly straight lines that overlap with those edges. The lines have to be long enough to cross each other at some point in the direction defined in step 3. To draw a line, just point your cursor at a "closer" vertex, and, holding the left mouse button, drag it away, minding that it should overlap the chosen edge of the cube.
5) Now simply drag lines from the remaining vertices to that point where the lines cross, which is called the vanishing point. Remember that a cube only has 4 parallel edges in each of the three sets (aka dimensions), so you need to draw only 4 lines.

If the lines from step 5 don't match the cube you've drawn, it means you dun goof'd either at cube drawing stage or at the stage of constructing a grid. Determine the correct answer and note what you have learned.

Any /beg/iners interested about iScribble or somethink like it ?

Line of action and construction go hand in hand. You do the line of action first to guide your construction.
>>
>>2976707
is it meme or i can use this shedule?
>>
>>2977645
I think about it every night. I'm not going to allow myself to buy one until I have the skills to justify it though.
>>
So just to be clear.

The general consensus is that if you want to draw supreme qt anime girls you need to master drawing realistic normie girls first.

Is that correct or am I being misled?
>>
>>2977438

I like to think drawing from life as drawing within the rules of nature. You have to follow that rules otherwise it wouldn't look like the subject you're studying. Once you know your way around that rules then you can easily break it in your imaginative drawing.
>>
>>2977801
Not drawing what you want.

What kind of artist does that?
>>
>>2977804
A new and naive one I guess. At least I can draw what I want to without guilt now. I feel free in a way.
>>
>>2977769
1) Make the gesture you want to draw with your left hand.
2) Keeping the gesture fixed, move your hand up and turn it towards your eyes, making the same angle as in your picture.
3) Observe and copy what you see.
4) ???
5) PROFIT!!!
