Basically, the question is if I can render well with pencil, will I automatically be able to paint well in b/w? Or are there additional things I will need to learn aside from how to use the software?
Another reason was, since I don't have access to a tablet this year i was planning on doing the ctrl paint digital painting starter, traditionally.

you'll need to learn other things but not tons. in traditional art academies they usually restrict the students to pencils for the whole first year, sometimes more, so it certainly wouldn't be a detriment.

Those are both done with digital.

The purplish tone and bits of white highlight looks added digitally but I don't think the whole thing was done digitally.

It looks like it was a mix of a pastel, pencil and then flat opacity brushes with the opacity set to pen pressure (Same as was used to paint the white in). I don't see a single stroke that doesn't match a digital option. I don't even think there was used custom texture in the brushes.
Besides you can see that it is neither a photo or a scan.
This entire thread seems like a troll attempt.
