I tend to redraw the same things(anatomy studies, face studies, pose studies, form studies, a bit of character design here and there). I generally try to target things that i'm weak at. Like my anatomy isn't perfect and I still have a long way to go but in the back of my mind i think i comfort zone when i do it since I find i relaxing and enjoyable and also because i've done it so many times. I dunno.
When you're comfortable doing something, you're in your comfort zone. Going out of your comfort zone is doing something you're not comfortable doing. Being comfortable is being relaxed and enjoying yourself.

i think most stupid questions on /ic/ are ones that the op would know the answer to - they just need reassurance for whatever reason but then again i think thats a human thing

The comfort zone is where you tend to go when your brain is on auto-pilot. So try not to do that all the time.

the 'comfort zone' is an all around unhelpful concept, don't worry about it. instead try stay in the whole new 'stimulated zone' which is where you're stimulated by and interested in what you are doing, that way you get on with learning new things without attacking yourself constantly for feeling comfortable.
and remember
> Comfort: from Late Latin confortare "to strengthen much"
