FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The original developer of the site has taken a leave for quite a while, originally due to medical reasons. Progress on the site is almost non-existant at this point. You can try contacting him at @LavaFlake or emailing him at [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>Your streak will go back to 0 and you will have to start again. No other penalties.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>There is no week system anymore, instead new users are given "streaks" based on the number of consecutive days you can submit without getting eliminated. (token losses do not reset your streak)

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

"It’s been a pain free week or two. Back to back with the wrist, elbow, shoulder and even my finger. It’s been at least a pain free week and it’s crazy how much better I feel. The actual pain wasn’t so bad but the stress that came with it was getting me down. I need my arm to last forever so I can’t be running into issues before I even get started. Typing less has helped as well as not working through the pain (which is probably the dumbest thing a person can do fyi.)

There’s no time to waste; I’m going to need to start finishing drawings. That fucking sucks. Copying another artist can easily produce a stiff flat look if you're not careful.

When the artist you're copying drew their pieces, they weren't worried about getting line placement, width, etc. to match another drawing 100%, which results in a more "organic" drawing with more flow.

That's why when studying other styles it's more important to think about how the artist constructed what they drew and their thought process behind it than making the final product 1:1.

Fuza: Balance feels a bit off on the right character. Imagine a vertical line going through the centre of the character, from between the collar bones down to the ground. Makes it easy to notice if the weight of the stance is off. And you should try and get your line art together so it all feels less messy. You are working digital and have 0 excuses.

Pijin: Love the contrasts on fox-lady, but the gestures are really messy. Can you actually see what you're doing? If not: turn the page and be lighter on the hand. Also remember basics like not drawing heads too large or legs too short. And a tip for gestures which I think you either ignore or don't know is to mark out the directions of the collar bones and the hips. You'll get a lot for free if you get those two down early.

Jeremias: Don't ignore dem Loomis. Drawing a circle for the skull isn't enough.

Pernix: Deltoids don't go up that close to the neck. And you're forgetting the collar bones. It makes him look like an american eggball player. But it's easy to fix. Deltoid is one of the easier muscles to half-arse. Just look at a couple of pictures and I'm sure you'll get it down.

Comfydraw: Grasping things like construction and dropping symbol drawing can be difficult for some people. And I'm not saying that you should stop pursuing it, because you shouldn't. But there might be a reason to pursue other parts of the craft as well. For example: I spent some time only drawing with ink/pen to become more secure in my lines. Perhaps you should try something like that? To give your art a cleaner look.

Beanhead: A fairly simple exercise: Draw a simple see-through 3D box (don't worry about perspective if you've got issues with that). Then draw a person inside that box. Try to make sure that the person in some way touches every single wall of the box, including floor and roof.

I've been feeling really burnt out. A friend suggested I collaborate on a game or animation or something to give myself stricter deadlines and more purpose. Anyone know where to find good ongoing projects or something I could just jump into?

Truths aside, if you feel burnt out the last thing you should do is take on more stressful work. If anything do the opposite.
Perhaps spend a week or two not drawing anything but instead dabble in a completely different artistic craft where you feel less pressure. Sew plush dolls, or origami, or something? So that you'll find the spark of enjoyment again.

What would you say you're biggest art weakness is? Share and please offer advice if it's something you've dealt with before.

Me personally, I feel like I want things to come intuitively even though they don't always do so I end up weakening my work because I don't follow proper guidelines. I draw from imagination 90% of the time, if I draw from ref I don't really measure anything and I avoid using construction sometimes too. I feel like I've just gotta take my time more and do everything the "right" way before doing my own shit.

I would say that my biggest weakness is designing anything. I got by on polishing turds for so long that the basics of design are almost lost on me. When straight up design is involved, my ambition dies and I commit myself to a grueling process of trial and error that always ends in indecisiveness and procrastination.

This challenge brought that to the forefront. I'm just glad I pick a knick into Bandit's piece - it really was a fantastic learning experience to work with his submission.

Drawing figures 3 dimensionally and anatomy are my main issues. I've been drawing all my life so I have a ton of bad habits and symbol drawing to unlearn, but at the same time what I really want to draw is stylized stuff. I've been trying to study up on figure drawing and construction but I'm not making as much progress as I'd like to.
