Post regularly on social media. I posted regularly for like a year on instagram and got 1k followers before deleting my account. Reason being, my art was shit and I didn't wanna be popular with shit art. Honestly, if you're intermediate level and above, and you post regularly you'll get popular. It just comes down to have an appealing style. Fanart obviously helps.

Here is what you do.

Live a miserable life. Just be fucking miserable all the fucking time.

When you turn 30 that's when you will become popular. You see, what happens is you find out that your entire life is a lie and you're some kind of Truman Show participant that the entire world has either fallen in love with or fucking hates. You will start to see a bunch of weird shit happening around you, music videos from extremely famous legends like David Bowie depicting your life, Superbowl performance will be about you, and even weirder shit will happen.

This is what they will call your "Game." In your game you will also discover you have a very bleak future with early onset dementia rendering your hands absolutely worthless, ending your career as an artist.

Also, you're now the opposite gender you were before.

This happens to everyone when they hit 30. I know it sounds unbelievable but it'll happen to you too. Life just get's super weird the older you get.

I think it's a middle ground.
If you have literally no one that's probably worse than not being able to go anywhere. Sure you can go outside but if you don't have anyone in your life you rarely have a reason to go outside and when you do sometimes it just gets depressing seeing other people you can't connect with.

If you just want to be popular, then spam the shit out of social media. It's a pretty shallow fucking goal, but if it's all you want, more power to you, I guess.

But if you want a career, then you need to market yourself. Getting an agent helps, buying ads in magazines for your market, displaying and selling posters at conventions, selling online, getting hired for commissioned work, etc. That all helps. Hustling is hard work, but it does pay off.

If you are just using art to get people to pay attention to you, just stop pretending to be an artist, and be an Instagram whore, like the rest of them. It will be one less wanna be artist clogging up art sites.

In my case I skipped the fanbase thing and just decided to work 1 on 1 with random people. I get money, they get their drawing and I only have to deal with a single person.

I don't even tag my work and just use my blog as a place to store drawings as examples for people who want to hire me.

I have no idea how this works for artists who don't draw anime-related things. But if you do, draw Kemono Friends stuff and tag it with the name in Japanese. You'll get hundreds of Japanese followers in a matter of days.
