If this artist made an original piece, you'd see significantly less attention. Likewise, if you drew Howl's Moving Castle, you'd probably get a lot of attention. Fan art is a lot like trying to steal an already existing fanbase, but the catch is, the fanbase doesn't actually care about you, so it's an illusion.

2, she abused the category system and posted it in papercraft, which requires much less favs to get your work trending than more accurate categories in this case like "anime" or "fanart"
3. and most importantly she has 600000 pageviews and 52000 watchers. It's not that difficult to get 4000 views and 1400 favs when you have such an insane number of watchers even without getting it trending on the main page.
