Plenty of successful artists in the past sold this kind of work from their home. I think the technical term is a "yard sale".
Nowadays, with the internet, you can even set up an exhibition on sites like "craigslist" or "ebay" where potential art collectors can peruse your works.

I get the idea to sell it just to make a point, but I think you are getting the wrong picture on how 99% of the contemporary artists (the crazy, conceptual type of art) make their money. They ask for government grants for shows. You have to write a short essay on why your art is important and fits the narrative they want to pursue. For example there is a lot of Feminist art today and a lot of it is performance art. Did you ever asked yourself who buys that shit? No one, it's just government grants.
