compete in gesture battles to level up
>>2954180
anon this is serious they're a mess

I'll gesture battle you OP. It's just like pokemonz. You battle other artists to gain exp and level up. Post a new set of gestures and I'll reply with my own. Then you'll be able to see what I did right/wrong and both of us will gain valuable exp.
Just do a quick page of 30 sec gestures or something.

STOP
>>2954187
no joke. I'll gesture battle you right now. It's very rare that you'll ever find a willing participant on /ic/ so I suggest you take me up on my offer right now. This can only help you.

okay

kinda looks like you got what I got. My stuff is usually sloppy, but mileage and repetition can go a long way. You're better at poses though as far as I can tell.

wow thanks anon
your's has a unique style to it, IMO i think it has a lot of potential :)

Yea it's pretty shit. Don't do random lines, "feel the form", visualize it, lead one line to another. I know it sounds like a meme 'cause of how often Vilppu says it, but he doesn't say it to fuck with you.
Every line you put down should have its place in 3D space, describe the form or connect forms together. Work from photo refs so that you can clearly tell whether you captured the essence of the pose successfully in the end.
Keep working, you'll get there.

Look up the concept of line economy. Force yourself to use as little lines and strokes as possible without losing the accuracy of the gestures. You will improve pretty fast if you do this.
bumping for interest, I'm also shit at gesture.

do less lines, more individual drawings
don't focus on details while you are still a beginner
focus on silhouette, gesture, negative spaces, try to maintain proportions, and force yourself to interrupt the drawing with looking at your ref just between each drawing
beginners dont have to post in the beginner thread anymore? thank god i can some answers from now on

Not OP but this really helped me out a lot, thanks. The idea is really starting to click with me. It was really frustrating before I thought about this.
