What are some good books/resources on drawing vehicles?
>>

Cars are static objects, just observe their structure and apply perspective.
>>
Scott Robertson
>>
>>2953249
Scott Robertson is for autistics. Mark crilley already covered cars in his tutorials

Scott Robertson is for people that want job done right. Only nonmeme book on /ic/.

Type in youtube "how to draw cars" tons of free video to learn how to draw car without using the the autistic techniques of Scott.

>What are some good resources on drawing vehicles?
vehicles ?
>>
>>2953301
Yes, and most of those are drawn by people that have no idea how to draw cars. Mark Criley, included. The guy barely grasps the fundamentals.

I'd stick to Scott Robertson or Marouane Bembli. Both of them specialize in drawing vehicles.
>>
I kinda got inspired to draw vehicles because of Toriyama.
But I'm still busy with practicing cubes.
>>
Here's a good resource.

Go for a walk down your street and take a sketchpad
>>
>>2953436
This. Most coffee shops have a great street view and most cars are on the street. Plus girls might see that you're drawing and offer you sex.
>>
>>2953436
But this won't work yet

No point in copying cars even from life if you don't understand how do they work, asuming OP wants to create his own cars he should probably work with models first
>>
>>2953424
everytime i see toriyama old stuff i cant stop wondering what went wrong with him

I don't know either, I thought the early Dragon Ball stuff was just plain fun in a fantasy/sci-fi world.
I can't quite point out why, it's been a long time ago but I definitely like the early stuff better.

Are there many vehicles later on in Dragon Ball (Z and whatever came after that) at all?
>>
>>2953458

Extreme burnout. He drew 15 pages a week for 15 years with very little downtime and minimal assistance, and in the later half of DB's run he started doing concept work for Dragon Quest.

I don't blame the man for basically retiring from comics.

>>2953570

Not really. The last time vehicles were a big part of the story was the King Piccolo arc. Once the characters could fly there wasn't much point to them. From then on it became the occasional space ship or time machine, although 16, 17 and 18 tooled around in a van for a while.

if you wanna draw caricatures of vehicles like toriyama: check page 14 of this (the chapter about scale), it's helpful

I think it's easier to draw vehicles if I build upon a round shape instead of doing the box in perspective meme.
>>
>>2953693

No.
>>
>>2953694
post work.
>>
>>2953696
Not that anon but I think it's you who should post examples of your method, since the draw a box meme is what all artists and architects have been doing for centuries.

>>
>>2953705
Not him but here.
>all artists
no
>architects
Are we training to be architects here or do we just want to draw a car next to a cute girl for likes on tumblr? Which is it?
>>
>>2953719
ok, post car drawings made with your method then
>>
>>2953424

Toriyama art is inspired by Jackie Chan's film mostly. All the quirky compact "K-Car", 80-90s vehicles and stuff.

>pic related

There's an intro before the pic, where Jackie was chillaxing on the roof of his compact crossover, with a fishing road, the car was floating on a lake on a mountain crater.

That scene just screamed "Toriyama".
>>

>Spouts stupid shit about building cars from round forms

>Car is clearly build from boxes

Fail.

>Are we training to be architects here or do we just want to draw a car next to a cute girl for likes on tumblr? Which is it?

I'm training to be something way closer to the former than to the latter because I'm not a complete faggot.
>>

My post was to be directed to the Robertsonfags and clearly dialed the wrong number.

(still waiting for those drawings)
>>
>>2953762

I'm confused, what are you asking?
>>
>>2953730

*fishing rod

shit i couldn't find that particular scene

can anyone find a stream of the original version?

original had cantonese audio and longer intro with jackie's singing, all the 'hd' streams today are english dub with cut intro

One of the most iconic scenery in Jackie's film, can't believe they cut this part out in western releases.

do you guys even Keys to Drawing?

you're supposed to combine the two together

Show me an example of your fine method then.

I'm no god when it comes to drawing cars but I should be decent enough to give some tips. Like anything you draw you should construct the perspective using a box that roughly fits the volume of the car. After that it just comes down to your ability to draw form correctly in 3D space. I know that's kinda vague but drawing cars require a surprising amount of knowledge of rounded forms to pull off. People often construct cars using rectangles and while that's excellent for perspective it makes cars look rigid and unnatural. Scott Robertson's techniques are sound and consistent, but you can easily fall into the trap of spending way too long over constructing if you don't know understand the forms and how they exist in 3D space. Also use reference from many angles.

Basically, understand how round/curved forms operate in 3D space and construct them with box perspective.
>>
Can anyone recommend a brand or source of small and inexpensive but realistic model cars?

Having a physical model is the best way to draw something in perspective because you can measure any proportion you need, but they're often expensive as they're aimed at collectors.
>>
>>2954018
I always found mine at flea markets
photo reference is just as good tbqh
>>
>>2953458
>everytime i see toriyama old stuff i cant stop wondering what went wrong with him
Nothing?
Hes still as based as he always has been.
>>
>>2954686

Fuck thats based
>>
>>2953458
>what went wrong
litteral decades of drawing the most action packed manga to date, and working himself to death with games like dragon quest would burn out most artists.
>>
>>2956263
>litteral decades
Dragonball only ran for 10 years.
Even bleach and naruto had double the publication time that dragonball had.
People seriously overestimate how long dragonballl was in publication.

>>2954686
No wonder why I liked him so much as a kid : look at the detail on that machine gun!
