Is it possible to draw comics with just pencils? Skipping the inking and just darken the lines with level adjustment. How would it afffect in the printing process?
Usually I like inking quite much but sometimes after the pencil phase, I feel that I'm done with the drawing and lose interest on inking it.
I did a test page with only pencils and then tried to fiddle it via Photoshop. There are probably some functions that could get rid of those white spots. Or just fill them with brush.
Could something like this work or does it look too lazy?

No rules only tools
Sure, why not? Agree with other poster, there are no rules. Anyone that tries to tell you that you MUST follow the "sketch, ink, color" triage is fucking wrong.
> or does it look too lazy?
I don't think art is so black and white (pun intended). Even if it was to "look lazy", maybe that would make your comic unique; and if you didn't like that look you could learn to spend more time cleaning up the art to look better in print.
Also good to consider different textures of paper and ink types when (re)printing. Maybe there are some combinations that may work better for pencil/graphite.
it could definitely work, that pic look good albeit a bit sketch like. if the strokes were more uhm purposeful there would be no question about it
You can make comics with any medium what you must keep in mind is what would it look like when printed, historically pencil illustrations were rarely printed, dunno why
On Eclipse Magazine, an anthology from the 80's I saw a couple of pencil only comics, I would post them but I'm too lazy to look them up.
The point is that go ahead and make comics with pencils, you're free of worries until you have to mass print them.
Also the white dots maybe an issue with your scanner or the glass where you place the paper.
Thanks for your inputs. I'd like to give it a try but I definitely need to jerk with Photoshop more. Clean the pages more carefully.
Maybe the pencil art might look like an interesting style.
about the white dots, this may change the style entirely but try blurring the image lightly then use unsharp mask to compensate. iterate this a few times and the lines will look smoother and most of the dots will dissapear

err, forget what i said. tried it, didnt work

though it kinda looks inked, doesn't it?

Why ink for comics?
1. Slightly overexposed camera films by the printer hide dirt etc. on the original artwork, so the artist can work faster - but it hides fine detail
2. Cheap pulp paper
3. Dodgy registration of colors can be mitigated by thick outlines
4. Separating pencilling and inking allows the artist to produce more pencil work and then pass the boards across to several inkers.
...so all historical reasons that don't hold for indie publishing in C21.

Looks kinda photocopied desu. That unchanging line is unsatisfying for organic forms imo, unless you're Manara-tier, and then its still flat.

Just wanna say I love the style of those leaves/treetops in that pic yo, looks real dark n nice

By the way, some of Miyazaki's comics done by pencils. Nausicaa for example. Hiroaki Samura's Blade of immortal too.

yea, the same process happens when copying a copy of a copy of a copy of a...
Today you can do comics with any medium.
This page is pencils and watercolors. The pencils are black because the drawing is xeroxed and put on top of the watercolor layer.

Well, as other anons have pointed out, there are no rules. That being said, I don't think you could get rid of the white dots with just adjusting levels in Photoshop, that "photocopied look" always happens when you move the levels too much , and I think the final piece would always look "sketchy".
Why draw with pencils and then try to make it look like Ink? I would suggest that you embrace the pencil look and make it part of the comic, like pic related.
If you want your comics to look like ink just use ink, using pencils and trying to make them look like Ink is just impractical. I tried that before.

That'd look pretty interesting for a page of a sketchbook but pretty 'meh' for a comic.
Brian Selznick, known for The Invention of Hugo Cabret
I've but doing this for a while. Really gives it a unique grit. I have a feeling if independent western comics ever pick up again it will be in the level adjustment style. Not to go on a rant but op please keep perusing comics. Its a medium that's sadly dying and not taken seriously enough.

If you know its sequential art then different rules apply. t. Scott Adams

It's not lazy. Steven Dupré uses that technique in "Midgard" with mechanical pencils.
I draw each element of the panels in pencil, and Photoshop them into the finished work. I do this to have more control over each aspect of an image, and as a time saver to recycle background stuff where I can.

Took me like one minute to figure out just what the fuck I was looking at in the first panel and I'm still not quite sure how it fits together, you need to work on that.

dont know if you want critique, but you shoud consider drawing the text and bubbles aswell. and whats with the stretching and squashing of elements of your drawings?
oh and op, check out shaun tan. real dedication there

MegaTokyo is drawn in pencil. It's not exactly a good comic, but it was popular enough to have a banner image here many moons ago. I don't see the point of using pencils over ink if you're not going to use smooth gradients, subtle textures, or any of the other things pencils are good at. If I was going to try using a pencil only I'd probably layer a few layers of tracing paper over my main drawing to map out things like pure whites/blacks, effects like phototextures or screentones, and other things that are easier to do digitally.
This page seems to be made with pencils but i'm not entirely sure.
>all this good hatching and I can barely get the direction of my hatch marks right so it always looks fucking flat or weird
