so my fairly wealthy parents wouldn't send me to art school or anything, nor oil painting classes or any sort of art education cause they didn't like my decision (meanwhile sibling is in law school).
ok sure, i got over it, who cares. it hurt seeing my sister spoiled and me shoved off to the side, but it was my choice.
anyway, now i'm moderately successful and making money off freelance. as a result, i think they feel bad.
so. they insist on buying me an ipad pro & apple pencil. i keep telling them that the money itself would be more beneficial to me, to go towards more art education, books, or my savings.
is it just me or is the ipad pro and pencil a total gimmick? can i actually do my client work on the go like some people are saying? my files get up to 1gb in size.

Ask for something decent like the 22 or 27hd cintiq instead.
don't to go to art school it's a big scam.
Pirate any programs you need and you're set

perfect, thanks.

No problem.
I personally have the 22 had Cintiq, I actually got it like a week ago. I draw for a living and in comparison to my little Wacom bamboo from 7 years ago, I draw twice as fast, or rather complete my commissions twice as fast since I'm making less mistakes and its 1:1 for drawing.
I use Paint tool SAI for art, which was a steal ( ;) ) and its great for doing rendering and lineart.
I heard photoshop was better for colouring, but I'm 5 years into SAI and still learning about it so I don't have time to learn another program. (Though I did figure out how to do DoF.

You don't even need a cintiq. buy fucking pencils and paint.
Failing that a intous pro large, or med will do just fine.
the cintiq screen is a meme

Bro honestly the cintiq is like 50 times better than an intuos. I drew 5 years on intuos and now 2 on a cintiq and I love the damn thing to death.
But of course - every person has their own favourites...
