You're partially right I think, in terms of it being over detailed (in comparison to the original painting), the eye part wasn't an accident.
On a second look I noticed that I misaligned that face slightly to the left, so that might also be part of the problem.

I think I see it, yeah, maybe a little shifting could improve feeling more. On the other hand, if you want to go anal, one can spend next hours tinkering with adding highlights, changing gradients and whatnot.

Did just that, a bit of a shitty edit since I'm on my phone atm, but I think it looks more solid now, with a few issues still remaining on the lips.
Spending hours on something does have its benefits, but I dont think I'm going to tinker with it much further. :P
